Despite a report indicating otherwise on Tuesday afternoon, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (on Twitter) hears that Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown has not requested a trade from the Steelers. Rapoport hears that Brown is frustrated, but has not made an actual request to get out of Pittsburgh.
After Brown’s practice blowup on Wednesday, he yelled, “I’m done,” according to Rapoport. Then, he posited aloud that the Steelers should trade him. Rapoport’s understanding is that Brown was venting in frustration and any talks of him actually looking for a trade are premature, at best.
Brown signed a four-year, $68MM extension with the Steelers in 2017 and has been playing at a Hall of Fame level for several years. This year, JuJu Smith-Schuster took a giant leap forward and the two players formed a top-tier tandem. With three seasons to go on Brown’s deal, the Steelers are probably not inclined to trade him, and the wide receiver could very well cool off in the coming weeks.
This team will need to make changes, whether they consider trading AB or not. Munchak is probably going to get some job offers and he’s the one coach you don’t want to leave. The OC and DC are both going to have to go. The team needs to get back to being a team and not guys being about just themselves.
The team was 4th in the league in scoring, 2/1000 yard receivers and Ben had 5000 yards. Why in the hell would they get rid of the FIRST year OC. For someone that always commenting on EVERY Steeler article, you can’t be this dumb. I could be wrong though. I probably am b/c you say STUPID stuff often.
There defense was pretty good too. One of the best pass rushes in the league. They just lost weird games to bad teams and a lot of it was because of kicking then Ben getting hurt in the Raiders game.
It’s the play calling that you only see when you watch the games. They make zero adjustments throughout the game, bad play calls, and just horrible coaching. Ben was able to play earlier in that game, the coaches held him out as a precaution thinking they could win without him.
Name one “Perfect” play caller. No matter what you say, the OC isn’t the problem.
Brown has made it clear he doesn’t want to be there anymore, he sees the writing on the wall the Steelers era is coming to an end. No Bell, no replacement for Big Ben when he retires either this offseason or next. This is gonna get ugly quick, I really do believe this season was their last chance to make a super bowl appearance.
Blah blah blah. Ben is 2-3 years from retiring and who cares about the selfish Bell? Conner and Samuel proved every bit as effective when they were actually used… Red Zone offense was best in the League this year and two 1000 yd receivers with TE production improved. Far from done. Tomlin is more the problem cause he can’t keep control of his team!
This exactly. Tomlin is a horrible time manager, doesn’t control the team and would rather be his players friend. He was known as a defensive back guru, but name one DB he’s developed with the Steelers. He made the horrible call to do a fake punt and give Brees a short field with time on the clock, didn’t prepare well for games against bad teams, etc. If he doesn’t turn it around next year with a new staff I don’t know how he can be brought back.
Bell is the best offensive player in the NFL. Conner, although good, was nowhere close to Bell’s nearly 2000 yards from scrimmage. This season was an utter failure for Pittsburgh. The division was the worst in football, with rookie and 3rd string QB’s. They should have moved Bell early in the season for usable pieces but they stick to they’re guns, showed him who was boss and crapped all over themselves this season. They 100% deserve with they got.
You cant move a player if they are not under contract with the team. They couldnt move him.
Before they tagged him they could have moved him.
There a reason why the Steelers run to pass ratio was one of the most lopsided in NFL history this year. Far cry from the 400 Touches Bell had last year. Keep on with your blinders and not seeing that the “so-called” running game you’re bragging about couldn’t put teams away in the 4th quarter.
You’re gonna judge success by number of touches? How about what is done with those touches? Conner was more efficient this year. The play calling didn’t allow for Conner to put games away in the 4th. It was very pass heavy. Also Conner obviously missed a few games due to injury, thus lessening the opportunity for those special 400 touches.
Amazing how you get a huge contract and start running your mouth. Shut up play football. Us on the outside of you overpaid millionaires don’t care. We don’t care what you want, what you have to say , just SHUTUP AND PLAY OR GIVE YOUR $$ back and do something you are qualified to do outside of football.
Uh, Bubba, perhaps you might take a break from professional sports. It is what it is, man.
Maybe he can talk and play at the same time, since he did have 1200+ yards and 15TD’s. You sound like a person that’s jealous that you don’t have talent he does.
Maybe you should shut up
Haha Bubba based on your response, you obviously do care a lot and you sound crazy jealous. Why are you counting another man’s money?
I’m actually really intrigued by the Steelers situation. Big Ben contemplated retirement not long ago, Bell is sure to be with another team next year, Big Ben and AB seem to have some issues and Ben even tried to call out AB on a terrible throw where he was picked off in the end zone like a month ago, AB seems like he’d rather be somewhere else. Just really wondering what this team will look like next season. Obviously Ben continues to show he’s a beast and can outplay most QB’s in the league so I doubt he’s gonna retire this off season but it’s not far fetched to think maybe next off season he does. Think they should really start thinking about the future and draft a QB this year, maybe trade AB and get some draft picks to help build for the future.
They just drafted Mason Rudolph, Josh Dobbs year before.
Mason Rudolph should b pretty good with the weapons around him. JuJu, James Washington, Connor and Samuels we know will b there in the next 3 years when Rudolph takes over
Bens replacement will be drafted after he leaves.
Agreed. Not to mention if you are an offense of skilled player right now do not know if you want to play with big Ben. He never except responsibility for anything not what you want in a team leader. The Steelers era is rapidly approaching it’s in evitable end.
AB…….New England is a great place to show your skills. Just saying…..
Steelers would never trade with the Pats. Dream on.
Yeah, he could wind up like Chad Johnson.
As always, the media doesn’t have a clue as to what they are reporting. “The insiders” simply have no idea as to the inner workings of the players or organizations; yet run continuous stories stating how they do.
I’m really glad this offseason will all be about an unhappy Steelers player, I deffinately did not get enough of it with Le’veon Bell
Distractions all year long and penalties are a direct relation to coaching. They need to address both during the off season. A good start would be with the special teams including the kicker. Improve that and they would have still playing football this year.
Also never address Shazier’s void during the draft or free agency.
If Ryan Clark’s story’s are true Brown is not someone you want on your football team.
Yea… you definitely don’t want a guy that amassed 1800/1500/1200 yards on your team. So terrible and easy to replace
Until the Steelers ownership decides to bring the culture out of the dark ages the dissension will continue.
I’m not trying to justify his behavior as other people might have handled it with more grace, but I see why AB would be mad. He already disliked Mike Tomlin and was called out by Ben Roethlisberger earlier this year. He put up almost the same stats as JuJu this year. AB 104 catches/1297 yards/12.5 YPC/15 TDs this year, JuJu had 111/1426/12.8 YPC/7 TDs. Their yardage is a lot closer if you consider JuJu had that 97 yard TD catch against Denver on blown coverage and missed open field tackles. 10 of Ben’s 16 picks this year were when targeting AB and his QBR was a full 10 points lower when throwing to AB than any other receiver. The last game he played this season against the Saints he went for 185 yards and 2 TDs while JuJu had the game losing fumble. And then JuJu gets named team MVP? When he’s the one responsible for the Steelers not making the playoffs while AB had an insane game? I’m just saying, most other people in that situation would be pissed off too.
“TEAM MVP” means nothing in the grande scheme of things. The “best” player usually doesn’t get it. The best person usually gets that team award
Why do the Steelers absorb a 21m cap hit by trading Brown? Shouldn’t the team that acquires him to do so?
