Tom Brady isn’t going anywhere. The longtime Patriots quarterback will be back in New England no matter what next season, he told Jeff Darlington of ESPN in a recent sit-down (Twitter link).
There had been some speculation, as there has been for a couple of years now, that Brady could choose to ride off into the sunset a la Peyton Manning, but that won’t be happening this year. Brady said there was “zero” chance that the upcoming game against the Rams would be his last game ever. Assuming he doesn’t change his mind, 2019 will be Brady’s 20th season in the league.
He’s 41 now, but the drop-off in play that many have been waiting for has never materialized. Brady had another great season this year, throwing for 4,355 yards and 29 touchdowns while completing 65.8 percent of his masses and making his tenth consecutive Pro Bowl. There were rumors last year about a thawing in the relationship between Brady and Bill Belichick but true or not, they’ve been able to make things work.
With only Brian Hoyer behind him on the roster, the Patriots have no clear successor in-house for Brady, and it’s possible they could look to draft one in the near future. On the other hand, Brady has said in the past that he wants to play until he’s 45, so they might not have to worry about a replacement any time soon.
Good for Tom! He deserves all the praise anyone has. He has plenty of distractions, but. Ever lets it derail him. I is fantastic to watch Football history each time he takes the field. I’m positive there will NEVER be another QB like him EVER! Thank you Tom!
There will never be a better QB ever? Wow!
There already was such a quarterback. His name was Joe Montana. He won Super Bowls and no game was ever over until the last whistle, even if the 49ers were down 20 points. Brady is very, very good but he’s a system guy. Montana was the talent.
Montana wasn’t a product of his “system”? Heck, the Bill Walsh offense practically took over the NFL for a couple of decades.
Montana and Brady are different QBs, playing in different eras. In some ways Brady has it easier…rules have made his job safer, but Montana played in the era before free agency when he had the same guys around him for years. I think you got to give the nod to Brady…playing in 9 Super Bowls is unheard of, and the path to the SB is much harder these days than it was in Montana’s era.
Sure, Brady’s success is about the system, and Montana did it all by himself…it’s not like he played with the best WR of all time, or that he played for perhaps the greatest offensive coach of all time. Sure.
Agreed. And how many HoFers and Pro bowlers did Montana have around him? Rice, Craig, Taylor, Rathman. And that was just on the offensive side of the ball. He was great, no doubt, but had a genius coach, great supporting cast, and stellar defense.
The only people who has said he may retire is the media. He has openly said he wants to play until 45 for at least the last 3 years. But with the media, if it doesn’t suit them, then they make up news; ala fake news.
And the entire other AFC east teams snap their fingers.
They do that because Americans Believe everything they see and hear from the media.
I agree which is why I always comment on things like this. The best part will be if he retires before 45, they’ll stake claim as to knowing all!!!!!!!!!!!
“He’s 41 now, but the drop-off in play that many have been waiting for has never materialized.”
So nice of you to put a jinx on the guy before the biggest game of the season….lol.
People are probably gonna disagree but I’m my opinion Brady is the best football player to ever play. No one has had the longevity and still been able to play at a high level. I have no doubt he’ll play until he’s 45, I mean if the o line continue to play this well he could play until his arm falls off.
If Joe Montana played in this era he would make Brady look like a backup.
Lol. Montana would be Bradys backup.
Montana was great but to say that is absurd and easily the dumbest thing I’ve ever read
Easily the dumbest.
Montana had Jerry Rice FFS. Brady has had next to nothing.
Montana won 2 rings before they got Rice. He had nothing
If Montana played in this era we can’t even guarantee he would win a single SB. The game is completely different. Even Brady has had to reinvent his game as the years have passed and the rules have changed. Nobody had worked harder to stay healthy and be mental prepared every single week.
defenses are way more complex now, Montana didn’t have to read and change plays at the line. Game is much harder now. Guy could very well be a bum if he played today. Great for his era though
Im with you. Unfortunately we live in a world where people’s opinions are more important than numbers.
A recent study has revealed that people’s opinions are more important 63% of the time and numbers are more important 69% of the time.
I believe next sunday Tom will receive ring 6 and i Wouldn’t be surprised if in the next two or three years he picks up number seven. You can go back to my comments two weeks ago when I said that he would beat the Chargers by 30 points well I think now he will beat the Rams by at least 16
But let me guess you had them losing to Nick Foles last year
I don’t remember but even as a diehard Chiefs fan I still knew the patriots would win last week. I don’t understand why people hate a guy who does nothing but wins.
Brady plays until 2023 then in 2024
President Brady.
Then in 2026 HC Obama leads the Bears to a championship and is invited to the White House to meet President Brady….lol.
And followed by Condoleezza Rice leading the Browns to a super bowl 61 victory
The keys to the city to be presented by mayor Hue Jackson?
This got out of hand. Lol
I’m blaming these random acts of boredom on Goodell for extending the season a week longer than it should be. No one seriously believes the Pro Bowl is real football.
brady’s just a smart player. he’s slower than a turtle, but refuses to make simple mistakes. throwing the ball away’s been his best play, he doesn’t force plays down field brady settles for simple 5-7 yrs and lets the receiver get another 3-4. wash – rinse – and repeat
hes one good hit from retirement. hope it happens next Sunday. can’t stand this arrogant cry baby. when he loses he runs off the field. Respect some of what he has done. Deflategate makes him look like Barry Bonds in my eyes.
Agreed. F this MAGA loser
Ahh Are your food stamps running late?
Jealous idiots out in force
