Things didn’t go the Saints’ way on Sunday and Drew Brees is determined to go out on a higher note. After the loss to the Rams, Brees told reporters that he plans on sticking around for at least one more season.

“I plan on being here next year and making another run at it,” Brees said (via Luke Johnson of the Times-Picayune).
Brees, who recently celebrated his 40th birthday, turned in one of his very best seasons to date. Brees completed an NFL record 74.4% of his throws and also had a career high in passer rating at 115.7. In the regular season, he threw for 32 touchdowns against just five interceptions and, if not for a controversial no-call on Sunday, he would be gearing up for an attempt at a second career Super Bowl ring.
Thanks to the two-year deal he signed with the Saints in March of last year, Brees is under contract for 2019 at a $33.5MM cap number. The Saints could seek an extension to smooth out the cap hit (and overhaul the voidable year in 2020), but New Orleans will be glad to have Brees back in any scenario.
Just wish he hadn’t gotten screwed this year. Brady vs. Brees would have been an awesome Super Bowl. Would have been the biggest confrontation since King Kong vs. Godzilla.
Way Brady was talking last night doesn’t sound like he’s retiring anytime soon, so hopefully next year! There’s a part of me that feels like it’s gonna end up like Kobe and Lebron not playing against each other in the Finals.
I was actually about to make that same comparison
Just like how he got screwed in 09, right?
If not for the call that wasn’t a hands to the face we would have Mahomes vs Goff.
Should have been Mahomes vs Goff.
He touched Brady’s helmet. Not hard but he did. It shouldn’t have been rtp but he did make contact with the helmet.
If the refs called the face masks the saints committed against goff and gurley the saints would still have lost with the points the rams would of scored.
But sure lets pretend the missed PI is the only call that affected the outcome of the game.
In the end, ya gotta play better than the refs ref. If you can point to a particular call that “cost you the game”, you didn’t play good enough. I won’t argue it wasn’t a blown call since it clearly was, but calls get blown every game.
And they had the ball first in OT. The amount of outrage over the Saints losing is comical. They act like the Saints commited no uncalled fouls
I honestly don’t think anybody who has seen a number of NFL games feels that every penalty gets called. It’s been noted by many commentators that, using one example, if they called holding penalties by the book, there would never be an unpenalized play.
In my opinion, the outrage on this call is that is was SO blatant… I’m in Memphis, and a buddy of mine comically said, “I had no problem seeing that from 400 miles away…”
Obviously not every single play will get called but there were enough blatant ones on the Saints as well. Goff got grabbed down by the face mask late in the 4th, and they settled for a FG. Also multiple times the play clock was at 0 and the Saints had not snapped the ball yet
It’s a shame when missed (or questionable) calls affect the outcome of a game, but as Pitches said significant plays/calls occurred throughout the contest that might have provided an advantage. Not getting into the end zone on NO’s first two red zone attempts hurt, as did the missed tackle on the fake LA punt. In the end both of the championship games yesterday were exceptional and came down to the last team to have the ball won. Drew Brees is a real class act.
The game was set to shine for the new LA team and for gambling. And, this year, TB will still sell more than Mahomes. That’ll change next year, but they gotta maximize value every year.
Yup! The games are setup to maximize the most money for the NFL! Plus they want the Rams highly visible with that new stadium opening soon. It’s got a cost overrun of 1.9 BILLION so far!
That’s right. Magically this season, the field in Mexico City was ‘so bad’ that they had to move the 2 highest scoring teams to the LA venue. And got a 100+ point shootout. As if, the city threw in unscheduled events behind the NFL’s back. Sure, real believable.
Every international game the home team must keep their stadium open. Take off your tin foil hat. Was the Shikara concert and pictures of the field looking like trash staged as well? The leauge just announced the Cheifs and Chargers will play in Mexico next season and thats a pretty premiere game
link to ninersnation.com Sounds like the 49’ers field is crap. Throw in Skins’ field, and plenty of other bad fields in the league. Why aren’t those games moved?
If the 49ers field is that bad then players need to come out and protest it. You dont even realize the leauge lost a lot of money for moving the game out of Mexico
LA will always be more profitable than Mexico City. Sorry, but that’s just a fact. Then factor in that LA has two teams.
A ‘loss’ on 1 game means nothing to the league. And all those young stars on KC & Rams would much prefer to showcase themselves in LA over Mexico. Where do you think they’ll cut their adds in the offseason?
Your massively reaching for this nonsense. If they put on a show in Mexico the same fasion as LA people would still have taken notice. Why are they literally going back there next year with the Chiefs and Chargers. That is a very big game to play internationally and yet they are doing it again. If they really do what you are saying it would have been Cardinals Rams or some other crummy game
If Mexico City was so important to the league, then why are there 4 games in London and 1 in MC? And until that game is played next season, I won’t believe it. The league was clear, they’ll move it w/o consideration in a days’ time.
Did you notice that the Chargers are the host team? They couldn’t sell 30,000 tickets per game this year, an easy choice to move a home game from.
Your really going off today in that tin foil hat. Last season the Raiders ( even though they stink are a very big team that generates a ton of money) played against the Patriots in Mexico. Thats a very big game that actually got played in Mexico. Your whole conspiracy of why the game was moved is comical. You seriously think their plan is to move next years game back to LA again as well. The league lost millions by moving the game and you think they actually did that on purpose. You struggle to understand basic business and economics if you think they took that “1 game hit” on purpose.
All the teams generate HUGE money! The 0-16 Lions and Browns made money those years. Did you see those owners fretting over revenue or looking to sell? What’s your point? Please name 1 year where the NFL ‘lost money’? Just because they say they lost cash doesn’t mean it actually happened.
Did you forget to factor in the “extra” $2B in gambling revenues this season before calculating their loss?
You keep going off to irrelevant tangents. They will make up the money lost easily, but that doesn’t mean they just throw away 45 million pored into Mexico City for a game. No one on earth could have envisioned a 54-51 classic game, but sure they planned it all along. You also contradict yourself about the other garbage you said about the league being rigged. Yous aidf they have to milk revenue from Brady since he is near the end of his career. Well how about Brees?? He doens’t have much time left either and if they were really what you say the Saints would have won.
Conspiracy theorists will always find a way to contort facts to fit their theory. And if nothing else, they’ll fall back on the, “you can’t prove what I say didn’t happen”, LOL
Read that link I sent from Ninersnation.
From a financial site today: Tickets to Super Bowl LIII at Mercedes-Benz Stadium had an average listing price of $7,939 as of Monday morning, according to data from TicketIQ. If it holds through Super Bowl Sunday, that price would rank as the most expensive on record for the secondary market. The “get-in” price, or cheapest available seat, cost $2,862 as of Monday afternoon.
Thanks TB12! The rest of the other 31 teams really love you (at least their owners and executives).
Calls get missed in every game. Both teams had calls missed BUT the PI call that they missed was so blatant and obvious that it is different. Saints got totally hosed.
Especially bad considering they have all the technology to get these calls right and still don’t ! WHY?
The big problem I see with the no call was the ref’s reasoning, because he thought the pass was tipped. you can always throw a flag, confer with the other ref’s, then pick it up and say there was no penalty due to whatever reason
c’mon it’s blatantly obvious the league has it out for certain franchises, coaches, players, owners.. sean payton happens to be on that list with jerry jones, raiders, etc. they will never succeed as long as goofdell is calling the shots.
That game would’ve been played in LA if the refs didn’t make a PI call on Joe Haden in the Steelers Saints game. Any ways, they need to make penalties reviewable
Dear god no, regular reviews take too long as it is adding reviews to penalties is way too much. We need better refs cause the ones yesterday looked like they were just fans that came dressed as refs.
Well the calls will continue to be wrong. PI is too big a call not to have reviews on
I’d rather have a longer game to make sure the calls were correct!
Let’s get something straight yes the non PI call in the Saints game was bull but the blame really has to go on Payton he tries to be cute there was a down and goal where he had Hill in at QB they scored the TD on the next play but when you have Drew Freaking Brees in the championship game you have him at QB. Up 13-0 and you lose that’s on the play calling, really the Saints should’ve been in a position where the PI wouldn’t have mattered
But that was a team decision
and not a Ref decision . BIG difference !
So basically Drew Brees will continue as the Saints QB until Archie Manning has a grandson that can take over.
