After losing out on the Jets’ head coaching job, former Packers head coach Mike McCarthy won’t be on the sidelines in 2019, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL.com (Twitter link), who reports McCarthy is preparing for the 2020 hiring cycle.
McCarthy was selective throughout the head coaching search process; with young children in the Green Bay Area, McCarthy turned down interest from the Cardinals’ and never officially interviewed with the Browns despite a planned meeting. Recent reports had indicated McCarthy was focused solely on the Jets’ job, one that’s no longer available following the hire of Adam Gase.
As PFR’s Head Coaching Search Tracker indicates, only two jobs — the Bengals and the Dolphins — remain vacant. McCarthy never interviewed with either club, and there’s no indication either club was interested (or vice versa).
He doesn’t deserve to be a HC anywhere after fizzling out in Green Bay. I wouldn’t even want him as my team’s OC.
McCarthy is a great coach, Aaron Rodgers is a whinny baby that sucked this year and threw his coach under the bus.
Lol…..bwhahaha…obviously since there were only 7 openings for HC in the nfl and he was offered a whopping 0 of them.
You don’t know what he was or wasn’t offered. Apparently he wasn’t interested in half of those jobs. Despite pouty Packer fan whining, he’ll be on someone’s sideline after next year and he’ll win because he’s that good.
Doubt it dude couldn’t even beat out Adam gase for a job
Smart , smart move by passing on “ McCant win”
After another losing season and the general manager finally gets fired we can bring McCarthy back as gm can do any worse then the one we have now
Lmao this couldn’t be anymore true
Agree with Dray….I blame ARog for the demise of McCarthy.
Ok Mike no one wants a fossil as a HC. Jeff Fisher thought the same thing. The call won’t come next year
When you get passed up for Adam Gase, it’s time to start looking into retirement.
If the Steelers implode next year, he might be able to move back to his home town. And then have a job for at least a decade.
That is one possible scenario and overall I think future prospects will look better than what he was presented with at this time.
Maybe he can use the year off to completely overhaul his playbook, so as not to be so predictable and stale on offense. Nevermind, he supposedly did that this past year to the same old results.
Since the Jets are likely to dump their current GM there was really no point in pursuing a HC job there anyway.
OVERRATED
Rodgers did not “suck” this year. He had a down year (to his standards) but He was pretty money. However, it was obvious to all that he wasn’t find of mccarthy. Neither was 75% of Wisconsin. McCarthy is a has-been. And he is only a super bowl winning coach because of rodgers. I’m sad to say that I’m glad to see no team wants him because no team should have to suffer through is vanilla offense and lack of attention to defense. I only hope they rename the street named after him.
