Former Packers head coach Mike McCarthy doesn’t want to be considered, and isn’t pursuing, any other head coaching vacancy other than the Jets job, a source tells Adam Schefter of ESPN.com (on Twitter). Of course, McCarthy’s only other known interview was with the Browns, and he is not one of the two finalists, so his only real hope of being a head coach might be with the Jets anyway.

McCarthy did attract attention from the Cardinals, but Arizona was too far from his family in Wisconsin for his liking. It’s also too late for a change of heart – the Cardinals found their head coach on Tuesday when they agreed to hire Kliff Kingsbury from the college ranks.
The Jets have already interviewed Eric Bieniemy, Adam Gase, Matt Rhule, Kris Richard, Jim Caldwell, and Todd Monken. However, none of those candidates offer the same kind of resume as McCarthy. The Jets and McCarthy could be on course for a deal, though buzz is also building about Rhule’s candidacy.
If Chris Johnson doesn’t hire him he will be the most hated owner in NY. For like a week till the hate for Dolan and the Wilpons slips back into the picture.
That’s false. McCarthy is an overrated HC and Chris Johnson knows it, otherwise he would have already offered him the job. I’d rather have Bowles back over McCarthy
You’re nuts if you want Bowles over Mccarthy.
The JETS are looking for a yes-man. Someone who has no problem not having any power at all when it comes to the 53 man roster which is why they have not won a Super Bowl in 50 years. The structure system in that building is an absolute joke it makes no sense. They have already said the new coach will report to the owner this is not how this works LOL. The structure system is real simple head coach reports to general manager and general manager reports to owner but the Jack’s see things differently you would think after being the joke of the league for so many years they would wake up and say we need to change the
What is your profession?
McCarthy is the most overrated coach, shouldn’t be any teams choice for a coach. Look what he did with Rodgers, not good enough so how can you expect him to do better with a less talented qb?
He wont last 2 years with the Jets. That team will be a disaster with McCarthey calling plays
By your definition, every coach that gets hired without a Super Bowl is??? Underachieving? Super Overrated??
McCarthy won a Super Bowl…
?
Adam Gase with the Jets cap and crew would be great. He’s a good coach.
McCarthy is just a safe and boring pick. Too vanilla. He’s nothing without Aaron Rodgers.
More like Aaron Rodgers is nothing without Mike McCarthy.
lol.
That’s laughable
One of the greatest of all time is nothing without a mediocre coach? What?
Might be one of the dumbest comments ever written on here
Adam Gase would be an interesting pick. He did a lot of good with a cap heavy, QB-less team.
Meanwhile, McCarthy has had lots of talent and can’t do squat. Everything is dependent on Aaron Rodgers. When he’s injured, the Packers can’t when a game. Awful. You don’t see that with Belichick and the Patriots.
Jets want to play it safe, but it is the wrong choice.
He did develop Rodgers so that might be enough for the Jets with a promising young QB on their roster. If they go with McCarthy there is also the possibility that he succeeds. Yes Green Bay success depended on Rodgers staying healthy but that was by design not desperation. When you have a golden arm like Rodgers Manning or Brady in their prime you win a lot but your roster overall trends downward in talent depth department because you are drafting at the end of each round year after year instead of the beginning. Naturalky things tend to get ugly whenever you don’t have the QB the roster needed to be competitive and you failed to strike gold with your later round draft picks.
The Packers were good for many years.
Other candidates don’t have the same resume as McCarthy? If you mean choking away 13 years with one of the best QB’s ever with 1 Super Bowl then you are right. I would take my chances with any of those other “ candidates” before I would with “ McCant Win”.
By your intimation the only coaches who haven’t “choked away” the careers of every QB are multiple SB winners. In other words those that coached Brady, Aikman, Montana, Bradshaw, Eli Manning. Man some of you folks are clueless.
Jets may shock everyone and sign Rhule. He may be the best candidate to win the respect of younger generation players.
Jets should lock him up today if that’s the case. For their situation there is no better choice. He developed Rodgers and Darnold is the future for the Jets. If the Jets are his focus how is he not signed already.
Bingo. People in here acting like Rodgers pre-McCarthy is the Rodgers we see now.
McCarthy helped developed the dude into the QB we see today. Go look at Rodgers preseason numbers pre-McCarthy. They were a mess.
Rodgers was in green bay 1 year before mccarthy. So we should compare the pre-season before mccarthy (in which rodgers played with scrub linemen scrub backs, and scrub receivers) to the rest of a 13 year career? Get serious. If McCarthy is so great, why can’t he develope a back up to Rodgers that could be considered average?
If your’re a jets fan, you have to be ptraying that mccarthy is NOT a front runner. Good luck running a predictable offense with a crappy qb. McCarthy is a joke.
This would be a “please save my job for me” hire by the Jets current GM. McCarthy could be putting himself back on the market again next year if the Jets make more front office moves.
he’s a good coach. but have the oc call the plays.
I think all his clothes are already green and he doesn’t want to get new ones
