The Redskins have decided to retain head coach Jay Gruden for the 2019 season, NBC Sports’ JP Findlay tweets.
The move was assumed after most teams looking to replace their man in charge have already done so and moved on to interviews with candidates. The Redskins made it official, however, telling the team’s coach for the past five seasons that he will indeed coach a sixth.
Gruden has gone 35-44-1 in his tenure with the club, but was off to a solid start in 2018 before key injuries sunk their playoff chances down the stretch. With starter Alex Smith and backup Colt McCoy lost for the season, the team turned to Mark Sanchez and Josh Johnson in its limp to the finish. Despite the key injuries, the Redskins managed to pull out a respectable-for-the-circumstances 7-9 record.
Though he gave Gruden the benefit of the doubt, team owner Dan Snyder is not known for his patience with the team’s coaching staff. Signed through 2020, Gruden will undoubtedly be coaching for his job in 2019.
Their best coach left for the Rams 2 yeara ago
I guess even death couldn’t slow down George Allen…lol.

Truth!
Why?
Because who in gods name would want to coach a team with no QB (assuming smith isn’t healthy at the start of 2019), little cap room, a middle of the order first round pick, and poor front office management?
They’re best option will be to suck horribly next year, get to the top of draft and replace Gruden then when the team is more appealing to a better coach.
Sorry. Their.
You an already pencil the Skins in for another 3rd place finish next season & the 2018 isn’t even done.
I grew up on that team; Gibbs, the Hoggs, division tiles, & 3 SB’s. Dan has completely ruined that franchise.
When they had a Qb they were dominating the east. Once smith died they were toast. I’d give Baltimore a call and see what they want for Flacco.
To be Honest…I wouldn’t be surprised if Flacco is cut at this point.
You could get Flacco, who would prolly get cut so you wouldn’t have to trade for him, Tannehill since the Dolphins want to move in from him or if you wanna get a little crazy, go after Foles.
Gruden is a placeholder in a rebuilding year. Fill some holes in this draft, clean house (including Bruce Allen) after next season, then give the keys to someone else to choose the next qb
Jim Caldwell will be interviewed.
