Hold the phone. After giving offensive coordinator Scott Linehan a vote of confidence on Monday morning, head coach Jason Garrett walked back his comments just hours later.
“I think it’s a little early to be speculating about players, coaches, anything like that other than I really do think our group overall did a nice job,” Garrett told 105.3 The Fan (Twitter link via Clarence Hill Jr. of the Star Telegram).
Garrett went on to say that owner Jerry Jones has the final say on coaching staff matters, which probably means that Jones did not take kindly to Garrett’s Monday AM comments. For his part, Garrett claimed that he did not remember exactly what he said in the Monday morning interview.
The Cowboys offense was inconsistent – to put it mildly – under Linehan’s command in 2018. The Cowboys did manage a playoff win, however, before meeting their end on Sunday against the Rams. It’s possible that Linehan keeps his job, but nothing is guaranteed for the OC or anyone else on staff.
Garrett went on to divulge that his agent David Dunn has not had any discussions about a contract extension with the team. Late last week, it was reported that talks were underway between the two sides.
had too much heat from social media hahaha
Looks like daddy had to step in and remind everyone who is really in charge
Big Pappa Jerry put his boy in place
Get rid of the HC and the OC. Please I beg you Jerry.
It doesn’t matter who the OC is Duk is very limited as a QB. I think Linehan has done a rather admirable job all things considered. Dallas started the year with mediocre WR’s, lost their Pro Bowl Center and still moved the ball well considering everyone knows this team starts and ends with Zeke. That said someone has to be the fall guy, and it won’t be Jerrah or Howdy Dummy, (although maybe we still have hope on that front) until then Jerrah can fire as the assistants he wants and mediocrity will still reign in Big D!
Dak needs more weapons. Offense started opening up once Cooper came to town.
Jason Garrett has really impressed with his mental development over the years. Once a coach who considered icing his own kicker good strategy, he now understands that imitating the senility of the owner is a winning strategy too.
All of the offense of shortcomings goes on the offense of coordinator. His play calling was beyond predictable. As a defense you go into Dallas thanking run, run, pass. Ron, play action, run, pass. They need a fresh thanking younger
I sat in the west end zone of the Coliseum Saturday night and had a good perspective of field. As has been well documented, the Rams were determined to stop the run and essentially dared Dak to beat them with his arm. Good strategy. Receivers were running great routes and separating well. Dak was so frantic, he usually locked in on one receiver while others were wide open. Furthermore, targeted receivers frequently had to contort, dive or leap to haul in Dak’s passes rather than catching them in stride and piling up yacs. Dak is a good guy, but isn’t poised or accurate enough to be a champion qb.
Jerry Jones needs to bring in a GM, coach and coaching staff that he can trust and basically allow them to do their jobs and take a more hands off approach as an owner. Until that happens Jerry runs the team, and I don’t believe he has done that great of a job in my opinion.
Everyone has said this for 20 years.
The problem here is that Jerrah is determined to win one his way, with his guys. It kills him to this day that everyone knows the 90’s teams were all JImmy Johnson’s doing and all he did was stand back and sign checks. I’m betting Jerrah will go to his grave trying to prove that he to can be not only a great owner (which he is), but also a front office genius who made all the moves that ultimately lead his team to a title. Which would put him in the same company as Johnson.
