Antonio Brown‘s Week 17 blowup at practice may have been triggered by JuJu Smith-Schuster being voted as the team MVP by Steelers players, Albert Breer of The MMQB hears. The ugly blowup has led to conflicting reports on whether Brown wants to be traded and has teammates questioning his commitment to the organization.
Whether Brown wants out or not may be immaterial. The Steelers, by all accounts, do not want to trade their star wide receiver, and moving on from him would be an expensive proposition.
Thanks to the $19MM signing bonus he received in his four-year, $68MM extension and the $12.96MM restructuring bonus he later secured, cutting or trading Brown would result in a $21.12MM cap charge in 2019. In theory, a rival club could blow the Steelers away with an offer, but it would set a bad precedent for the team and they would still be facing a future without one of the NFL’s most deadly weapons.
Brown’s 2018 stats were not as gaudy as they were in past years, but the attention paid to him clearly benefitted Smith-Schuster. The youngster took a huge step forward this past season as he averaged 89.1 yards per contest and reeled in 1,426 yards in total. His 1,400+ yards topped Brown’s total (1,297), making it the first time Brown has not led the Steelers in receiving since 2012.
AB was the Hippo
Antonio Brown needs a pacifier
Wrong.
Wrong what? He acts like a baby.. love to see him work a real job and not play a little kids game for millions of dollars.
Like to see you play football againts nfl players instead of working a real job.
They get paid to be entertainers that play sports like movie stars are entertainers that act or musicians are entertainers that play music or sing.
Hating on people with athletic ability very sad. Counting another man’s money is even sadder.
Also I bet he has a chance to be better at your job than you are at his. Clown.
Steelers are trending down… qb is faltering and has maybe 1 year left, star RB and WR want out, head coach has lost control and the Steelers woman fans are mostly uglies. Clown.
Easy. Trade him before next year’s deadline to a losing team.
Trade him to another team that doesn’t have the complementary WR and see how he does. JuJu didn’t just get numbers because of Brown, JuJu has talent, not saying he’s Brown but Brown forgets he had help when he was starting out.
I watch every Steeler game and Brown is doubled the majority of the time, allowing JuJu to beat single coverage. JuJu Was pretty much non effective last week vs Cincy when he got the #1 treatment. JuJu is good, but don’t kid yourself that he’s a #1. AB Will go to anyone and instantly make their #2 better. Bell absence made it harder for AB this.
I agree. JuJu is gifted when it comes to beating one-on-one coverage, but he can’t stand out on his own. He doesn’t have the quickness necessary to beat those double coverages. Maybe if they were to draft Marquis Brown (AB’s cousin) in the first round, they could develop the two as the WR duo of the future, and force defenses into doubling up one or the other. That would allow them to trade AB
Footwork, Quickness and overall hands not even close. I Like Juju’s toughness, physicality and ability to get open.
JuJu will be a fine number 1 in the mold of Hines Ward being a number 1 except being a little bit faster.
It’s his 3rd year if AB is gone he will be the number 1 and he will be just fine
Nah… James Washington will be the next big thing, b/c JuJu will be minimized to a degree with those double teams. Never come close to Hines overall production.
James Washington is not tall or reliable enough to be a #1. You Squealer fans should get ready for a long down turn of losing
Since when do you need to be tall to be a #1 WR? Antonio Brown is 5’10. Tyreek Hill is 5’9. Odell Beckham, Emmanuel Sanders, T.Y Hilton, all these guys are #1 receivers that are under 6 feet tall. Rookies will develop. Then again, internet trolls never know what they’re talking about
Agree with everything you said tsolid
He was doing it before JuJu was there. Remember when he lined up opposite Marcus Wheaton. Believe me I don’t want him on the team anymore either but I refuse to knock the man’s talent and hard work. Crazy how in the 90’s the Cowboys has the triplets of Emmitt, Troy & Mike that win 3 championships. While the diva’s Bell, Ben & Brown couldn’t win squat.
Whole culture and whole team is a mess top to bottom & it starts with Tomlin.
The reporting from Pittsburgh is that the MVP vote took place after AB’s blowup, but that the vote results may have influenced him to stay away the rest of the week.
Not true.
trade him to the browns for draft picks
The Steelers use to be a smart organization. Based on they’re actions this past season, I’m so sure anymore? They created the “drama” and now can’t figure out how to extract it. Maybe another no playoff season will wise them up?
Get this man some Huggies.
I’d send him to the Jets for a second and forth this year and A third next year and Darron Lee… Deal or no Deal?
I would LOVE that but a first rounder would probably have to be part of the deal
Unfortunately, Jets don’t have a 2nd, I believe, after trade for Darnold last year. There’s no way the Jets will trade the #3 for AB unless they’re getting a pick back.
Sucks being second fiddle to a younger, better receiver. Doesn’t it?
Sucks not knowing how football football and strategies works. Not your fault
Patriots would resurrect AB and get him a ring
AB had 1300 yards and 15TD’s. He doesn’t need any resurrection. He’ll 10x better than ANYONE on New England
Trade with 49ers switch first rounders and get the niners 2nd rounder
