Since being fired by the Colts from their general manager post, Ryan Grigson has spent the past two years with two different teams. He served in both the Browns’ and Seahawks’ front offices.
The 49ers are now interested in bringing the veteran executive to the Bay Area, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports (on Twitter).
While John Lynch is entering his third offseason as 49ers GM, he has former Lions GM Martin Mayhew working in the front office as well. Grigson, 46, would add a third exec with experience as a team’s top personnel man.
The Browns let Grigson go just after the 2017 season ended. He caught on with the Seahawks in June of last year, now serving in the role of senior football consultant.
Grigson ran the Colts for five years. His first draft brought Colt cornerstones Andrew Luck and T.Y. Hilton, but the team struggled to build a roster around Luck as the years progressed.
Their owner said it best a year or so ago “You can’t fire the owner.”. Once a gold standard for an organization, now garbage. 3 winning seasons this century!
I wouldn’t let Grigson run a flag football team
HAHAHAHAHA this guy is a joke.
Cat wait to hear what Pat McAfee has to say about this one. Guy is supposedly a horrible human being.
So bringing in Mayhew(failed) and Grigson(failed) to help build your franchise? Lynch did kind of learn watching Denver, and I am a Bronco fan..
The man who traded a 1st rounder for Trent Richardson. Freakin genius
That was the owner who made that call!
Not a fan of the guy but I do trust Lynch and Shanahan and I think they will get this turned around. This off season is key for them, they gotta sign some good veterans to mix in the the young guys hey have and the draft picks they are about to get. This team will get there, I feel like this year we will see a lot of improvement and if they add the right guys I think they’ll be playoff team. A wild card but still a playoff team.
I understand the Raiders signing Mike Mayock, but, I don’t understand the 49ers going for Grigson. They need help with readying for the draft, and Grigson is not the man for that job. They obviously need expert help with the draft, and with free agency/trades as evidenced by the lack of success since they’ve been in SF, in those areas.
C’mon Grigson will be great I tell you. He will be so great that he will help the 9ers with the top 5 picks every year
