Joe Flacco is healthy, but he’s not getting his old job back. On Wednesday, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh confirmed that Jackson will start for a fifth consecutive game when the Ravens take on the Buccaneers.
Jackson took the reins when Flacco was diagnosed with a slight tear in his hip. Since then, the Ravens have gone 3-1 in Jackson’s starts and nearly made it 4-0 before the Chiefs topped them in overtime on Sunday. The Ravens have been saying all the right things about Flacco so far, but keeping him on the bench when he’s fully healthy could signal the beginning of the end for him in Baltimore.
The Ravens can cut Flacco after the season and save some money against the cap, though they would also have a dead money hit to contend with. Many expect that Baltimore will go that route, assuming Jackson continues to do enough to prove that he is fully ready for the starting gig moving forward. The Ravens may also be able to trade the veteran signal-caller to a QB-needy team.
Jackson, 21, has been a bit inconsistent in his four starts, but they apparently feel that he gives them the best chance to win moving forward. The Ravens currently have a 55% change of reaching the postseason, according to FiveThirtyEight, and they’re virtually guaranteed a spot in the playoffs if they win out.
Flacco’s to the Jags makes some sense
Don’t sleep on Bell to the Ravens after they cut Flacco. They need a dominate running back for The offensive scheme around Lamar. And just when you thought ravens-Steelers could get anymore…
As a huge Ravens and Bell fan, I would be so down for this. The only thing is he’s going to be expensive considering he gave away $14 million this year to make sure he gets as much money as possible next year.
Bell is going to have a tough time convincing teams to hire him after missing a year.
Leveon will have no issues getting a big deal. Not going to be from Baltimore though. We don’t pay top $ for RBS. I suspect ol crazy Jon out in Oakland will though.
I don’t get this, you can’t even run a real offense with Jackson and he blew the Chiefs game
He has started 4 games and you think you know what his future holds. Don’t be an idiot. He didn’t blow the game the D did. And give him a full camp as the starter, next year will be different for him. Also need to upgrade toe O line.
Jackson can’t pass. He’s can move around, do play action, but man… he needs to do much better in his passing game if he wants to continue. I expect Flacco to make some appearances because of this.
I’m a fan of Jackson, but he’s just not ready this year. His throwing accuracy has been awful, and they can’t run it every play as much as they try to. Idk harbaugh is probably trying to throw everyone off.
Tough call for Harbaugh. Can’t yank Jackson while he continues to provide wins but I would expect the coach to bring Flacco back in as starter as soon as Lamar suffers a loss. Coaches are extremely loyal to QBs that helped them acquire a ring even when those QBs are clearly past their prime.
