Bills rookie quarterback Josh Allen suffered a right elbow injury in Sunday’s 20-13 loss to the Texans, as Mike Rodak of ESPN.com writes. It is not considered to be a major injury at this time, but the team will run his MRI results past Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion.
The Bills do not want to rush Allen back, though the QB wants to play. After making a huge investment by drafting him, the Bills are understandably cautious. There’s also not a huge need to get him back on the field right away, given their 2-4 start.
“We’re going to take it one day at a time,” Bills coach Sean McDermott said Monday.
If Allen is a no-go for Sunday against the Colts, the Bills will have to decide between Nathan Peterman and Derek Anderson as his stand-in. After Peterman threw two picks in relief of Allen on Sunday, the newly-acquired Anderson may be the logical choice to start. In speaking with reporters on Monday, McDermott indicated that he would consider both the short- and long-term ramifications of benching Peterman in favor of the former Panthers veteran.
“I got to put the right guy out there that I feel is best for our football team,” McDermott said. “I understand the fans and that sentiment, but at the same time, I have to do what we feel is best for the football team moving forward.”
If he can’t go I’d start Anderson. I don’t trust Peterman. Anderson has more experience
Peterman needs to go. He’s not even CFL material
Next year. Tank this year for picks.
The Bills would be better off bringing back Joe Ferguson than starting Peterman.
I have a work event at 5 Sunday, but I can get out of it if they need a peterman upgrade.
Lol great comment
Let the kid sit out a while. No need to let him get beat up behind that awful OL. Gotta be hard to develop a guy when all he can do is run for his life
The kid might be Anderson’s age by the time the Bills OL becomes dominate again. Coaches who keep top draft picks on the sidelines for extended periods don’t stay employed long. There is no better teacher than actual game experience.
That just shows that you need to learn more. Two of the greatest QBs right have stayed on the bench for years and they are Tom Brady and Aaron Rogers.
Letting him sit out to get back to100% (ie a couple weeks) is different than shutting him down until the offense is better. Every game he’s been in this season Allen has had to force plays with his legs and take chances because the team around him is garbage. Why put him in an RG3 situation? Bills should at least make sure the dudes healthy before throwing him to the wolves
Nathan Peterman doesn’t belong on an NFL roster at this point.
The Bills would be better off with Uncle Rico at QB than they would with Nathan Peterman.
Has Peterman played poorly, hell yes, but he only has 3 games under belt. Can Anderson win a few games? Maybe but with the weak o line you need mobility, like or not Peterman is the man. Hell if he gets some good plays to hang a hat on he then brings some value. He still is a fricking rookie. Ppl had this warped sense we were going deep into the play offs this year, no no we weren’t
Should never have put themselves in this position. Q: Do the Bills not have a QB coach? If so, why Anderson? If not not, why not with 2 young inexperienced QBs? Bad bad decision making … and for what? To save money? Unbelievable. How can an NFL team put themselves in a position to not have an experienced QB? Just wow. This season is toast and the D is playing great.
Yeah pretty sure peterman can throw picks too why start Anderson at all???
