Breshad Perriman‘s stint in Washington has already come to an end. ProFootballTalk.com reports (via Twitter) that the Redskins have released the wide receiver. According to PFT, the organization “indicated it could bring him back in the future.” Meanwhile, ESPN’s John Keim tweets that the team will be promoting running back Kapri Bibbs from the practice squad to take the open roster spot.
The Ravens finally bailed on the 2015 first-rounder out of Central Florida in early September. After sitting out his entire rookie campaign due to injury, Perriman went on to have a pair of underwhelming seasons in Baltimore. He showed a bit of promise in 2016, hauling in 33 catches for 499 yards and three scores. However, he seemingly took a step back in 2017, catching only 10 passes for 77 yards.
The Redskins ended up signing the 25-year-old earlier this week, but they also added fellow wideout Michael Floyd on the same day. Following today’s move, the team has five healthy receivers on their active roster: Floyd, Josh Doctson, Jamison Crowder, Paul Richardson, and Brian Quick (Maurice Harris missed last week due to a concussion).
Bibbs joined the Redskins practice squad last November, and he ended up compiling 79 rushing yards on 21 carries in three games (he also added another 14 receptions for 128 yards). He was cut at the end of the preseason but once again caught on with the practice squad. With Rob Kelley joining Derrius Guice and Byron Marshall on the team’s injured reserve list, the Redskins were only rostering three running backs in Adrian Peterson, Chris Thompson, and Samaje Perine. Bibbs will likely slide behind that trio on the depth chart, and he could play a role on special teams (seven career kick returns).
Every team has wasted first round picks it happens. Look at the Bears they have Trubisky.
Yea. Trubisky, 14 games into his NFL career hasn’t lived up to his billing. But he did beat that team you’re defending here.
That was so bad. They traded so much to move up 1 spot to grab a player that would have been available at 3 and who wasn’t even a top 2 Qb in the draft.
Exactly. It’s one thing if they picked him with their original pick and struck out but the fact they gave up a lot and still struck out is what makes the Trubisky pick look much worse.
The Bears thought Cleveland was offering a ton to move to 2 and draft Trubisky. That’s why they made he move.
John Lynch confirmed they were.
And they weren’t wrong. John Lynch also confirmed that the Browns offered a lot. What the Bears couldn’t predict is that Lynch terribly misread the draft. According to Peter King, who was in the 49ers war room during the draft, he didn’t take that offer (a significant upgrade over what the Bears gave up) because Lynch thought his second choice, Reuben Foster, was going to be off the board before the Browns pick.
No one ever talks about that colossal blunder.
Or that the 49ers used the 4th rd pick they got from the Bears to move back into the 1st round and select Foster – who was still there at 31.
They also don’t talk about the 3rd rd pick they got from Chicago – the one they dealt to the Saints, the one the Saints used to take Kamara.
Nope. They just talk about the guy who was too dumb to realize he was dealing with an idiot.
Perriman just never had that “it” factor for me. Any time I’ve seen him in college or the pros, he just doesn’t look interested or like he loves football.
Thanks your for expert opinion
Trubisky wouldn’t have been picked before any of the first 5 guys in round 1 this year. I can’t see how any GM in football can be as stupid as Pace when it comes to QB’s. Glennon and Trubisky and this guy still has a job. John Fox must be shaking his head still in disbelief, Pace signs and picks these failures and Fox gets fired over it.
A GM has no control over the college talent that will be available in any particular draft. Trubisky was the rated the best of a weak group by scouts so he was going to be the first drafted. Glennon was a desperation signing that was meant to buy Trubisky some development time. That didn’t work out as planed but Fox was never going to win with Cutler as the QB.
When your Redskins signed this guy i wondered if they did that just to spite Philadelphia who were in desperate need of a wide receiver as well.
