Among the offers the Raiders received for edge rusher Khalil Mack, the Bears‘ was “by far” the strongest, tweets Michael Lombardi of The Athletic. Chicago eventually acquired Mack, so it’s unsurprising their offer was the most substantial, but Lombardi’s report may indicate the Bears outbid rivals by several magnitudes. In the end, Chicago sent Oakland a 2019 first-round pic, a 2010 first-round pick, a 2020 third-round pick, and a 2019 sixth-round pick in exchange for Mack, a 2020 second-round round pick, and a conditional 2020 fifth-round pick. The Bears have since extended Mack, making him the NFL’s highest-paid defender.
- Ravens rookie kicker Kaare Vedvik was found with upper body injuries and is believed to have assaulted last night, according to Justin Fenton and Childs Walker of the Baltimore Sun. It’s a scary situation, and Vedvik’s health is the most serious issue at hand. Roster-wise, rival clubs were reportedly watching what Baltimore would do with Vedvik, as he was a possible waiver claim candidate. Instead, the Ravens placed him on the non-football injury list. PFR extends it best wishes to Vedvik in his recovery.
- Having already lost Jake Ryan for the season, the Packers are likely to be without fellow linebacker Oren Burks for at least Week, per Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (Twitter link). Burks, a third-round rookie, had been projected to replace Ryan — who suffered a torn ACL last month — next to Blake Martinez. Instead, he’ll be sidelined for the season opener, and could miss a few additional weeks after that, according to Rapoport. Antonio Morrison, whom Green Bay recently acquired from the Colts, figures to take over in the middle of the Packers’ defense.
- Mychal Kendricks could conceivably file a grievance against the Browns after Cleveland released him following insider trading charges, as Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk writes. Meanwhile, Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports explains just how brazen Kendricks was in his misdeeds, as he accrued 1,500% return on an $80K investment.
Do u mean a 2020 1st round pick
No, he meant 2010. The Bears tricked them 🙂
Yeah, who did the Bears draft in 2010 and are now sending to Oakland?
Bears didn’t have a 1st round pick that year because they traded it for Jay Cutler… So I guess the Raiders could have Jay if they wanted.
The bears traded their 2010 first rounder in the Jay Cutler trade.
Idc if the Bears overpaid 10 times over the second highest bidder. They came away with a legitimate difference-making, impact player. There’s no projection to be had here. No guess work that needs to be done. Kahlil Mack is among the 3 or 4 best defensive players in the league. He gets to the QB almost at will and is exactly what the defense was missing. The Bears could spend their next 100 drafts selecting nothing but pass rushers and never come away with a player as impactful as him. To me, no price was ever going to be too high to pay for him.
In the end, the trade was summed up best by a Raiders beat writer. The Raiders bought a lottery ticket when they drafted Mack, hit the jackpot – and Jon Gruden turned in the ticket and said that instead of the winnings, he just wanted two more lottery tickets.
Well-said.
More likely, as good as Mack might be, Gruden didn’t see the team rising to the top of the league if that much money was invested in him. Like all other trades, time will tell who won.
No one needs to win trades, I hate when people discuss at lengths who got the better end. At the time, two franchises did what they thought was best for them at the time. It doesn’t matter who Oakland drafts with the Bears picks.
Ray, I disagree although I fully support win-win trades. Commodities are either kept and used or traded with the hope of getting more value. Players in the traditional sense are in fact the owners’ commodities. If he wasn’t going to be kept, the questions become was this the best return option and then did they maximize their return right so the team comes together at some future point in time.
That 2010 draft pick is a steal! Good on Oakland! Lol
Sending a pick from the last time gruden coached. That’s a solid way to get him to accept it
Two ones then we move up on two other picks that’s a steal for a player of Mack’s caliber. Good move pace.
Two Top 10 picks isn’t a bad haul for the Raiders.
The Raiders sending a 2nd round pick is terrible. “Oh here you go take Mack and a high draft asset”
Pace fleeced Mack by getting those picks in return.
Mack was easily worth 2 ones a third and a 6th, if
Not more
George W. Bush became the “owner” of the Texas Rangers with a $25,000 investment, so maybe Kendricks got investing advice from him.
And the last Dodgers owner leverage a parking lot into owning them and then selling for over $1billion.
“Mr. Kendricks, what is the nature of your grievance?”
“Well,l I’m upset that the team doesn’t want someone facing 25 years in prison for committing a felony to represent them…”
Well you never know, the current most popular grievance by a player is somebody that opted out of a contract and turned down other opportunities yet wants to sue for not being given a chance.
Yeah.. basically the same situation..
