The standard practice squad salary is $7,600 a week, but players in high demand around the league often get much more than that, sometimes approaching what their salary would’ve been if they had made the 53-man roster.
Seahawks seventh round quarterback Alex McGough didn’t make the team after Seattle traded for Brett Hundley, but he’ll be making $28K a week according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network (Twitter link). Although the Broncos wanted De’Angelo Henderson back on their practice squad after cutting him, the Jets offered him $30K a week to steal him away according to Mike Klis of 9News. Lastly, the Vikings paid offered $20K per week to poach tight end Cole Hikutini from the 49ers according to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer-Press.
Here’s more from around the league:
- “Moderate NFL owners are interested in a potential agreement” to waive discipline for players who protest the anthem if the players union will officially endorse standing for the anthem according to Mark Maske of the Washington Post. It’s unclear how close any such agreement might be, but it’s an interesting development.
- Speaking of the Vikings, the team worked out a slew of players today, with wide receivers Breshad Perriman, Aldrick Robinson and Teo Redding, and offensive linemen Hroniss Grasu, Wesley Johnson, and Bryan Witzmann all coming in for workouts according to Courtney Cronin of ESPN (Twitter link). Minnesota has dealt with a ton of offensive line injuries, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see them add one of these guys.
- The Browns finally ended the mystery of who would replace Joe Thomas at left tackle today when they announced it would be undrafted rookie Desmond Harrison protecting Tyrod Taylor’s blindside per Nate Ulrich of the Akron-Beacon Journal (Twitter link). Harrison was always a talented player, but went undrafted because of off-the-field concerns.
“Harrison was always a talented player, but went drafted because of off-the-field concerns.”
Think you mean UNdrafted.
“It’s like you think you never ever made a mistake.” – Lloyd Christmas.
Ya dingleberry
Stug is providing a proof reading service which allows the bloggers the opportunity to edit their article. He isn’t asking for $7,600 a week to join the Rumors practice squad so let’s not be critical.
The last two comments both genuinely made me lol. Especially, when Binks randomly added, “Ya dingleberry” at the end. Well done gentlemen, well done.
Also, quite appropriately, Stug corrects someone else’s grammar using a sentence fragment.
Bravo, “ya dingleberry.”…lol
Ha!
Protests are due to a false narrative that’s blacks are being racially discriminated against by police officers. This is not the truth and the media is the reason for this massive lie. Look up facts and you’ll see that the media is lying. Look at NBC how they edited the audio of the Trayvon martin shooting. They cut out the question for the 911 operator and just cut to Zimmerman saying “he looks black”, eluding to that he’s concerned about his race, when in reality the 911 operator is getting a description of the suspect. It usually comes out that the suspect has a long history of criminal activity. And people defend him! I’m sure there are times where blacks are killed by police unlawfully, but the numbers are small, even though 1 is too many, but the courts will serve justices. Also, just because it’s one color vs another doesn’t mean it’s automatically racist. There has to be intent for that. And because people don’t support the kneeling of the anthem doesn’t mean that they don’t want equality. 99% of Americans want equality. You can debate disrespect or not, which I clearly think it is, but when your own community of blacks are killing each other at a high rate, why is a handful of police cases the big outrage? I just want to know what needs to happen for kaepernick and others to stand.
We will never know, because Kaep isn’t going to get another chance to stand..
He opted out of his contract and chose not to take other offers.
Thank you for whitesplaining racial inequality to us. Now crawl back into your Bonn shelter and let the adults talk about reality.
If you cannot find some truth in his comment, then you’re clearly not the intelligent adult you think you are.
Wah wah facts and statistics are whitesplaining. FOH
if you remember, when Kap was looking for a job last year, he sent an email to all teams saying he would stand for the anthem.
This is a fact, and one that’s been greatly overlooked in all of this..
Another greatly overlooked fact is he chose to opt out of a contract, then declined others and is now suing because he doesn’t have one.
The article picture is exactly why he doesn’t play football anymore
The corn rows?
No, because the starting QB stands in the front line usually next to he coach. The backup sits on the bench pouting for a few weeks over losing his job until somebody suggests taking a knee.
Well said!
This is patently false and you actually are using other media outlets arguments for this issue which makes this a hypocritical argument. Additionally, you, like many others, have no historical knowledge beyond a decade ago and thats why this seems like its a leftist media agenda. The history of cops killing unarmed or innocent blacks go back to the creation of this nation and has proliferated since. This isn’t new. There was a time when lynching were the norm and for some they see this happening all over again. This isn’t to say that some weren’t guilty but it is calling into question why a disproportionate amount of blacks are being killed by police. This is a historical question with a historical narrative that you are ignoring. It isn’t about Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman. It’s the historical question of black identity and equality within the United States, yesterday, today and tomorrow. If you read a few books on it you would understand that blacks have historically been treated as the red headed step child, being dragged along in the story of this nation. From Slavery, to Jim Crow, to Civil Rights, to the destruction of black communities across the country. Instead of saying “when your own community of blacks are killing each other at a high rate, why is is a handful of police cases the big outrage?” try to find the reasons why black communities are being destroyed from within. It’s historical, it comes from above not below. Its causes range from Jim Crow laws that prevailed into the 20th century, to early welfare systems that obliterated black families in the 50s and 60s, to the crack epidemic that continued to destroy families in the 70s-90s (fyi if white people didn’t like cocaine so much there wouldn’t have been crack). The problem becomes cyclical and the current broken education system in the urban areas coupled with lack of job security, poverty, welfare, etc creates a stereotypical assessment that ends with “well you guys keep killing each other”. That’s not an answer that’s deflection.
What makes it such a media spectacle is that now information can be disseminated and spread instantaneously making the situation a national conversation. If Colin did this 20 or 30 years ago the attention would be far less because of technological limitations. So what then would have been a few days or weeks of discourse at varying levels of society, today is how touching the very foundation of the meaning of this country. So much so that the NFL (who just doesn’t want to lose the ad revenue from the military. Which on a side note we should be appalled because the target audience are largely poorer individuals with less options in their future) is discussing how to make them happy (ie punish players for extending their rights as citizens). The point is, if this is all a false narrative then what you’re saying should be considered a false narrative in itself as its just regurgitating what the other side has been saying as long as the left has been.
I’m sure there is someone who could condense this into a Twitter tweet but they would probably want $7,600 a week.
First, thanks for not just calling me names. I feel like you’re trying to understand where I’m coming from and I’ll try to understand where you’re coming from. When you say blacks are disproportionately killed by police, are they justified? Because if they are then that has nothing to do with race other than the statistic that proportionally blacks commit more crimes. And that’s what I’m talking about with the media. They’ll throw the stat that more blacks than whites are killed by cops, while ignoring the fact that they are committing more crimes/acting more violent. That’s lying. That’s telling people half the story. The left ignores the facts that are out there. So I wouldn’t say my post is hypocritical.
For trying to find the reason why the black community has had its struggles, you mention some obvious points looking back at history (idk about blaming whites for crack, though). I think the inner city is where the most tension and racial divide is. And you mention, Lack of education, job security, poverty etc. but that’s all intertwined. There’s lack of a school system/no jobs because they’ve been poorly handled and no one wants to work/put a business in the slums because of the high crime rates. The liberals (who were against abolishing slavery) run many of the inner cities, and push these false narratives down their throats to get a vote. They continue to divide the races and community against the police, and now the police have started backing off in fear of their own lives. I can’t imagine trying to live a non criminal life in the inner city. It’s tough. I don’t know how to solve it, but to sit there and dwell on past situations won’t solve anything. Unless you’re vying for a white tax, or for property redistribution, which would start a civil war, the black community has to look at themselves and see what they can do to help their cause. And again, it’s not rhetorical, what needs to happen for them to stand?
Are there unarmed black boys/men being killed by cops? Sure.
Is it an epidemic? Not even close.
People want you to believe cops are out here killing black folk for being black. Which is the furthest thing from the truth.
Show me an unarmed black boy man who
A. Did nothing wrong
B. Did not resist arrest or run or flee
C. Were actually unarmed and didnt try to fight or use something as a weapon
C. And was still shot and killed.
99% of shootings they dont fit the top 3 criteria.
The police get called to these areas and risk their lives being put into situations that require split second judgment. The innocent cops targeted for merely doing their jobs ridiculously outnumbers the unfortunate situations that went wrong.
Sorry guys. I was looking for the Trade Rumors site. I apparently took a wrong turn and ended up on CNN or FOX. I can be such a dingleberry.
They should just get the police parade marching band and drum corps to play the national anthem.
Just have Roseanne Barr sing the national anthem and that way all protests are justified.
