The Browns and Dez Bryant are meeting today, but each side has reservations about a potential union. Bryant ducked the Browns’ phone calls for a while and only got in touch with the Browns after GM John Dorsey disclosed that to the public. The Browns, meanwhile, aren’t completely sold on Bryant being a good fit for them.
The Browns’ internal conflict is understandable as Bryant’s star has faded considerably in recent years. After averaging 91 catches for 1,312 yards and 14 touchdowns between 2012 and 2014, his averages plummeted to 50 catches for 678 yards and 6 TDs over the last three years. He also missed ten games due to injury between 2015 and 2016, and some say he wasn’t giving 100% towards the end of his run in Dallas.
Will Bryant be motivated by his release from the Cowboys? It stands to reason that he will, but one can’t help but wonder how Bryant would react to a sharp decrease in targets. Bryant would be in line for plenty of looks if Josh Gordon misses time, but the Browns are hopeful that the troubled star will be ready to go in Week 1. It’s not hard to imagine a scenario in which Bryant is relegated to being the third wide receiver behind Landry and Gordon, and there’s also a group of talented young receivers to consider, including rookie Antonio Callaway.

I think the Browns should sign him. Just don’t know what you’re going to get from Gordon. This could’ve been his first full season in a while and now he’s behind by not being at camp like everyone else. It’s very disappointing. I’m happy he’s doing what’s right for him, there’s more to life than football and I respect that but it is still disappointing that he can be there but isn’t. With that being said, absolutely sign Dez and I think he’d fit him well. I think especially if Mayfield is the QB he will have a big year. People say he declined but his numbers went down when Adam took over, they had no chemistry, that was Elliot’s team and Dak was more of a scrambler and throw those short passes to the slant or screen type of QB and in my opinion I just think Dak is overrated and the numbers dipping for Dez isn’t really his fault at all. If Romo couldn’t stayed healthy and was still his QB he’d still be in Dallas. Browns would be foolish not to take a chance and sign the guy.
I think the Browns are long past worrying about appearing foolish (when haven’t they). Even if Dez is a washout he will draw some of the media heat away from Hue and Jackson might push to have him signed for that reason alone.
He CAN’T be there that’s why he’s not there! Dude!
I think it just depends on Gordon. If he can come back early on then I don’t think having Dez taking WR3 snaps from young guys will benefit. But if gordon is out, having that guy who can make big plays on the outside would be big, whether that’s from gordon or Dez. I still personally think there are better options like the ravens or 49ers.
That I do agree with. I think Dez would be a great fit for my 9ers. Not sure why they haven’t signed him honestly and wish they would. But I do think he will do fine in Cleveland if they sign him. I think Baker would do really well with him and Landry at WR. I’m actually excited to watch the s Browns this season.
*the Browns
how hard is it for you guys to link the poll for app users? every single one of the mlb trade rumors polls are available to app users and literally none of yours are. come on.
EXACTLY
I think they should, and bring in Incognito too
I’ve always been a fan of Richie but he really isn’t the guy you want if your committed to a youth movement.
I was going more for comedic factor of having so many idiots in one locker room would bring.
Dez Bryant clearly lost a step the last two seasons and he was becoming disruptive; the fact that the worst team in the League is not sure IF they would sign him doesn’t surprise me.
Browns aren’t going to make the playoffs this year, assuming Gordon is not available, Landry and Callaway should start w one of the young guys plus Duke in the slot. No need to wast money on one year of Dez Bryant. Who doesn’t seem like he wants to play w the browns anyway.
I don’t see Des going to any team unless he the number one receiver, when at best a 2 or 3.
Why does it matter? The Browns need a WR. Granted he isn’t what he used to be but he is still going to put up numbers (some numbers you dont want lol). Look he is only going to be there 1 year so take that chance. If it doesn’t work its only 1 year just move on. I think the only question is will his ego get the best of him since he won’t be the the first option and when Gordon returns probably won’t be the second option.
