The NFL has suspended Steelers wide receiver Eli Rogers for the first game of the season after a violation of the substance abuse policy. In a statement, GM Kevin Colbert expressed his disappointment.
“We are disappointed that Eli Rogers has been suspended for Week 1 of the regular season as part of the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse,” Colbert said. “The suspension will begin following the final roster cutdown on September 1. He will be allowed to continue his rehabilitation and attend meetings at team’s headquarters, but he will not be permitted to practice with the team during his suspension or attend the Week 1 game.”
The ban means that Rogers will not be able to take the field in the Sept. 9 season opener against the Browns. After that, he’ll be eligible to return for the team’s Week 2 contest against the Chiefs.
Rogers was unlikely to participate in the first game of the season anyway, as he is still recovering from an ACL tear in his right knee. Odds are, Rogers will remain on the PUP list for at least the first six weeks of the season before getting an opportunity to play.

Really seems like the rules should state that the player has to miss games when he’s healthy… I guess the monetary punishment is deemed enough.
Goodell can’t afford to alienate owners too much with severe suspensions so a double standard is almost inevitable. Last season Jerry Jones was adamant that Elliot should be allowed to play while his suspension was being appealed. Of course a player that is less important to a team’s success might be treated quite differently.
So the team will say he’s healthy a week before he actually is. That rule wouldn’t solve anything.
Is there a site that posts what the suspensions are? I thought substance abuse was 4 games, not for this guy I guess.
Wasn’t 4 games for LeVeon either
Looks like they separate PED use from a substance abuse. There is another player with a 1 game for the same thing… substance abuse
I doubt there is a website that actually tries to provide the criteria for the degree of severity of suspensions. The league and players union have a general agreement on this but of course players always have the right of appeal if they feel decisions are too harsh.
If you simply want to know who has been suspended, for what infraction and how much they have been fined then you can find that info at Spotrac under their tracker & tools heading.
It lists what the suspension is for
And whether ped or substance
Is this one game thing new?
I don’t remember seeing it last year.
I believe they started separating PED suspensions from “recreational” drug suspensions last year, and I’m pretty sure there were some 1 or 2 game suspensions for recreational drugs last year though I can’t remember a specific example.
