The Jets reached out to the Raiders to express their interest in trading for Khalil Mack, Manish Mehta of the Daily News hears. Naturally, the Jets aren’t the only team to ask about Mack – Mehta hears that more than a dozen teams have called, and several of those clubs have reached out multiple times.
The Jets have yet to make an offer, but it’s clear that they are being aggressive in their mission to address their pass rush. Right now, the Jets’ pass rush is arguably their biggest weakness, and Mack is one of the very best in that department.
So far, the Raiders have brushed off the army of suitors. However, as Mack’s holdout nears the 30-day mark, and the season fast approaches, nothing can be ruled out.
The Jets been in the league-wide cellar for sacks in each of the past two seasons, which explains their interest in Mack and Dante Fowler Jr. of the Jaguars. Even head coach Todd Bowles admits that it’s an area that can be improved on.
“Well, we don’t have the name guy,” Bowles said. “We don’t have the Lawrence Taylor, so to speak, but we have guys that work hard and are very tough at the point of attack. You don’t need a name guy. You just need a guy with production. And the production will make the name. Disrupting the quarterback is the big thing as well as setting the edge. We have certain guys that can do a lot of things right now. We’re mixing and matching to get a feel for what guys can and can’t do right now.”
And in other equally relevant news: I’ve expressed interest in being adopted by Angelina Jolie.
You’ll have to wait in line.
Where is this line and how do I get in it?
Would love if my 9ers went after this guy but I don’t see the Raiders trading him. I think a deal will get done eventually and if they don’t get a deal done and they trade him is have to say that’s a terrible start to the new Gruden era. Not a way to rice he fans confidence in you when you let one of your best if no your best player go
Mack isn’t going anywhere. Do fans actually think Gruden came out of retirement to join an organization that trades away it’s best players? And of course trading away star players is the perfect way to attain the support of people in Las Vegas….lol.
While I agree with you, Chucky’s ego…never know.
Gruden is calling the shots here. Let’s not kid ourselves thinking their “gm” is. Him joining the team has nothing to do with them having Mack or not. It would it wouldn’t surprise me at at all if he traded him, I just think it would foolish to trade him. I know they need help on defense badly and the salary cap does play a role but this guys a beast so figure it out.
The return on Mack would be huge. I think it would be foolish to trade him too since he’s one of the best defenders in the game, but I could see Gruden wanting to stockpile draft picks he gets to make.
I guarentee Mack leaves Oakland.. For Vegas..
You guys don’t have any idea how money works in the nfl, the raiders have NO defense with Mack, OR With 2 or 3 Mack’s their defense is terrible, the Raiders don’t want to invest in a player that won’t help the team. That is like you paying me $5000 for a empty brown plastic bag
After reading your comment, I’m inclined to think you own a brown plastic bong.
Vinmann you have no idea what you are talking about. Gruden and Guenther have came in and transformed this defense. The amount of pass rushers we have now is off the charts, some consistent performing linebackers and a secondary that has a chance to be great
I was right after all you morons, I don’t know what I am talking about, I told you Mack was going to get traded
