The Browns offered Dez Bryant a deal, but it was not to his liking. The proposed contract was worth less than $5MM, a league source tells Mike Florio of PFT.
By virtue of extending the deal, we know that the Browns are in fact interested in signing Bryant. However, that interest is not necessarily being reciprocated. Some in league circles believe that Bryant is waiting for an offer from a better team, Florio writes.
There could be any number of reasons for Bryant’s potential unwillingness to sign with the Browns. The wide receiver could be looking for a winning situation, which is less than assured with a team that has gone 1-31 over the lsat two years. Bryant may also have reservations about joining a stacked receiver group that includes Jarvis Landry, promising rookie Antonio Callaway, and (hopefully) Josh Gordon. Whatever the reason is, evidence is mounting that Bryant is hesitant about going to Cleveland.
While the sub-$5MM offer was not suitable for Bryant, no one knows exactly what the wide receiver is looking for. And, barring an injury to a star wide receiver, he might not get an opportunity to top that elsewhere.
With the Patriots more than likely needing WR help, I can see why Dez would be hesitant to be the 3rd WR at best on the Browns, who also have a talented TE and possibly the best RB stable in the game. But I still believe this Browns team will be surprisingly average (6-8 wins) this season
Best running back stable? They were ranked 18th in rushing yardage last season. I’m not sure the Browns could get 6-8 wins if they played Ohio State every week.
Of those running backs only 1 remains and he was also their leading receiver in Duke Johnson. They got a solid all around running back in Carlos Hyde. And then they got Nick Chubb as a power back. I can’t think of any team in the league beyond maybe New England with that running back depth and talent
I’m not convinced they’ve made a major positional upgrade and unless they improve from next to last in time of possession it probably won’t matter anyway.
No major positional upgrade? Are you crazy? Lol. –
Jarvis Landry, WR –
Demarious Randall, S –
Denzel Ward, CB –
Terrance Mitchell, CB –
Mychal Kendricks, LB –
Idk how you can say they didn’t make any upgrades…
No offense, but at least 80% of teams have better rb depth and talent than the browns. With that being said, they should be a much improved team overall. I think there’s a lot of future stars in CLE, Nick Chubb might be one of them…
Name them.
80% is way too high. I’d definitely take NO’s, Atlanta’s, and Chicago’s tandem over Cleveland’s trio.
And even though it’s not a straight tandem, I’d prefer the RB situation in Pitt, Arizona, Dallas, LA (Rams), and LA (Chargers).
So that’s 25% of the teams who Is absolutely, 100% say have a better RB situation than Cleveland does.
And that’s not including KC, Carolina, Jacksonville, Minnesota, and the Giants – all of whom have first or second year RBs that I believe are better than anything Cleveland has to offer but want to see what happens this year before making up my mind.
Imo, I put Cleveland right in the middle of the pack. They’re like SF to me. They have some nice pieces back there. But they could go either way.
Yes a lot of teams have 2 heads monsters.
There is only one ball so one monster is more than enough. For my money, Jim Brown was the most marvelous monster of them all…but that was decades ago.
I mean I really don’t care lol. I’m a Chargers fan not a Browns fan. I may have been hyperbolic but I was just stating reasons for Dez’s reluctance to sign
One ball, yes. 16 games though. You need two very capable for every play. Then you need a third down back or a third back who can do something the other guys can’t. Whether that be pass pro/pass catching or special teams play. And I’d venture to say sour 50%-70% of the team’s use at least one more back throughout the season.
80%?!? You are wrong sir
Best RB stable? Not hardly. It’s good. It’s not elite. I’d say it has a chance to be very good if Sony Michel can add a little thump and take the NFL punishment week to week, and be better than most rookies are. I said most rookies. The best RB back stable? That would be a great article, if you guys could rank RB stables. I’d have to say Cleveland has a very good one. And the team Inroot for
I root for is very good as well
Sorry I was commenting like he said New England ‘s was the best. Cleveland has a top 7/8 stable, possibly higher.
I’m sorry, but I really don’t consider a receiver core of those 3 to be “stacked.” I’ll believe it when I see it
He saw Rishard Higgins and knew he couldn’t compete with that level of skill
Dez should just retire.
I doubt that would happen with 2 new leagues on the horizon.
Meh…..
The Bears wasted a pile of money on Mike Glennon so I’m a bit surprised they haven’t gone for a double dip with Dez. He couldn’t contribute any less than Kevin White has.
He is a has been who has way over valued himself. Good luck Mr. Greed
Screw Him. Let him not play and see what happens for his career earnings
Still can’t believe he’s not a Packer. Or even a Panther. Personal stuff aside, he would kill it.
Rodgers is going to get the big slice of cheese so that would only leave the Packers with lunch money for Dez.
I thought Arod said he “wasn’t gonna screw them” haha
I hate to say it, but he’s still a better fit for the pats than any other team rn. I don’t think they’re as talented a team this year as ppl are making them out to be so they could use some help. And as washed up as Dez is, it’s scary to imagine him in a pats jersey
I can’t conceive of Bill Belichick and Dez being in a harmonious relationship. It would be like the Democrats falling in love with Donald Trump.
He brought in Albert Haynesworth and Ochocinco… anything is possible.
Picky, picky.
the season starts in like 2 weeks he’s running out of time to join a team with adequate time to be ready to play and contribute. Had 3 years 21 million from Baltimore and turned it down lol “better fit”.
Dez basically has the same mindset as Terrell Owens. “Don’t need no preparation and I can be a game breaker anytime I want to be…I’m doing you a favor by even considering your offer”.
Anyone else get the sense Dez will end up broke one day?
Nah, next comes the TV reality series, then the book tour and finally a last hurrah as a Walmart greeter.
That moment when a guy would rather be unemployed than work for you lol
P.O.S., Cleveland shouldn’t have even wasted their on him after he disrespected them.
Hard knocks was the only reason
BINGO!! he was spurning them, until his agent said, man you need to go there and be an angel and a saint. And then someone can take that and sign you up.
If I was looking to pad my stats to parlay into a contract next year, I sure wouldn’t want Tyrod Taylor as my QB. I’ve seen enough of him the last few years as a Bills fan
Jerry Jones and the cowboys did a great job keeping him in check. Acted like an idiot his rookie year. Got a babysitter from the team. Players get one free **** up. That was his. Then he did more stupid stuff.
Normally one of the long serving team veterans is responsible for babysitting rookies. I wonder who drew the short straw and got stuck with Dez.
Yes, Dallas has the secret formula for keeping idiots in check, they’ve had a lot of practice over the years. LOL!!!
Much like Latrell Sprewell, Dez has a family to feed.
He keeps on making mistakes. He should’ve taken that deal. If he signs with New England,….he will be cut from not learning all the routes, and all the plays, and not being a 100% “team guy”. He needed low expectations. He could’ve grown with them and been a good story when they win 6/7 games this year. And an even better story if they made further progress next year and contend for a playoff spot
