It sounds like Dez Bryant‘s Browns visit on Thursday went well. The wide receiver and his agent stayed in Cleveland to discuss a potential deal with the team on Friday, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com writes.
[Poll: Should The Browns Sign Dez Bryant?]
A league source tells Cabot that a deal is not expected to be signed right away, but Bryant’s extending stay is a promising sign. Bryant also sounded upbeat when making an appearance on the Browns’ in-house radio program.
“I’m happy to be here, you know excited, you know just trying to work out some things,” said Bryant, adding that the team’s facility is “a lovely place.”
Bryant avoided the Browns’ phone calls for a while, but he had a change of heart after watching the first episode of Hard Knocks this season. The wide receiver said that Jarvis Landry‘s speech about toughness and no days off inspired him to come to Cleveland and take a closer look at the team. Bryant, presumably, is eager to play for a winner, and he has reason to believe that the Browns can win despite their combined record of 1-31 over the last two seasons.
Wow. Jarvis should become a motivational speaker if he can make someone believe that they’re going to be contenders.
Call me a Browns fan if you want, which I am (my username has nothing to do with Indy), but they honestly could be this year, even without Bryant.
Think about it. They bring in a QB who took an unsuspecting team to the playoffs, granted it was the wildcard, but still.
Gordon, when healthy, is a top tier receiver.
Calloway is a 1st round talent if he can stay clean.
But let’s get away from the whatifs of Gordon and Callaway.
They’d have Landry, Higgins, D. Johnson and Njoku as primary targets. Higgins and Njoku did well enough last year to expect a big leap this year. Duke is gonna ball regardless.
They brought in Hyde, albeit not my first choice, but has proven when healthy can be good. Also Chubb can be a beast.
Last year, they were top 10 in running defense and got torched in the passing game. What’d they do? Draft the best cover corner in the draft all the while doing so completely revamping the secondary that did so bad.
So, add all that up, and you have a potential contender. If you say otherwise, you’re lying to yourself.
I’m also a Browns fan and I agree with everything you said; if you look at the roster, it’s a team capable of contending. I’m just in the “I’ll believe it when I see it” boat with the Browns, so I can’t bring myself to expect big things just yet. I definitely think they’re good enough, but I still feel like I’d be going out on a limb to predict more than about 5-6 wins.
I guess cautiously optimistic is the best way to word it.
Yeah, I’m trying not to get my hopes up too, but it’s hard not to this year
Yeah I agree
They look good on paper. We shall see
I’m a Steelers fan but I always play close attention to the Browns as I have a lot of family in the Cleveland area. The Browns talent-wise were a 5 or 6 win team last season, but they were victims to some of the worst QB play we have seen in a long time… and you cannot win in the NFL with terrible QB play.
Since then, Cleveland has done a whole lot of things right, especially in finally getting a professionally competent front office. Dorsey is the first Browns GM in a while who has a good plan and knows what he is doing. Hue Jackson was frankly straddled with too many obstacles to do anything successful over his first 2 seasons. The Browns were probably right to bring Hue back, but there should be next to no excuses this year.
The Browns are better. Pittsburgh is still good but getting older. Cincy and Baltimore have problems and arguably didn’t improve themselves enough. I don’t think the Browns are a playoff team, but they aren’t automatically a last place team either. 6 or 7 wins would be a good year and likely keep Hue around. .500 or better would be outstanding, and frankly I would like to see it happen.
I agree with everything you said. Except imo, they’re going nowhere until they get rid of Hue Jackson. I understand he wasn’t given much to work with. But, he’s nothing more than a glorified coordinator.
Lmao… lying to yourself? That’s the only way to describe your post. A few good players on a 53 man roster, worst front office in league history, terrible coach, awful city. The browns are and will always be a bad joke. Sorry if you are stupid enough to follow/support/give money to one of the worst run organizations in the history of sports. You can lie to yourself all you want. The browns will double their win total from last year, and still be 0-16. Thanks for the laughs! Go back to breathing in that tainted Cleveland air.
Lol. Yeah, you’re lying to yourself. Mark my words, troll
What does contender mean? What are they contending for a wildcard spot and a 1st rnd exit?
Then i’ll agree they might challenge the Ravens for 2nd in the division and be in the wildcard mix..
But c’mon, its the Browns. At best they pull 5 wins if we’re being serious.
They have the worst HC in the game (0-16) and hired a bonehead OC who will be their HC by week 10, in Haley.
Dez people are just putting this out there to try to get any other teams to reach out
Your a hater
He’s saying it because it’s mid-August, no other teams have called, and he needs to save face after initially turning down the Browns. So he claims Landry’s speech changed his mind when it was actually the lack of interest from other teams that caused him to crawl back to the Browns.
You got one big problem. Hue Jackson is your coach
That’s not even a problem. He only been there for two years with not talent now he has talent give a shot. If they dont contend for playoff spot then fire him. But you have to have talent to a least compete.
Dude 1-31. Cmon man stop defending Hue. He’s a joke. He should have never got a 3rd year
Browns will compete for a playoff spot. No doubt.
I assume your referring to a BCS playoff spot.
#Troll
Who are you calling a troll? The only trolls are the morons posting that the browns will be contenders. Absolutely hilarious.
yep, troll
BCS and College Football Playoffs are two different systems, for what it’s worth
Who cares about where Dez Bryant lands. Sick of it already. Over hyped under achieving has been whose day has passed him by and everyone but him knows it. He acts like he is Jerry Rice.
