Is UCLA star Josh Rosen the top quarterback in this year’s draft? Josh Rosen thinks so.
“I’m the best QB in the draft,” Rosen told Sam Alipour of ESPN The Magazine. “A lot of guys are flashier, but I think I’m the most efficient, monotonously consistent QB in this draft. Rodgers has some flair, but if you watch Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, there’s nothing that’s explosive or Johnny Manziel — like. It’s just quarterbacking.”
Rosen has gotten some flack for his willingness to speak on social issues and interests outside of the game of football, but he says that he is focused on winning games and titles at the next level.
Here’s more draft news:
- South Carolina tight end Hayden Hurst had dinner with Dolphins brass on Tuesday night and has a top 30 visit with the team on Wednesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com tweets. The Dolphins are in need of a tight end as Julius Thomas and Anthony Fasano remain unsigned. Hurst, a former pro baseball player who walked on as a tight end for the Gamecocks, may have the most upside of any tight end in this year’s draft.
- Key members of the Seahawks brass including GM John Schneider and coach Pete Carroll spent Tuesday at Arizona St. privately working out Texas A&M wide receiver Christian Kirk, Rapoport tweets. The Seahawks lost Paul Richardson to free agency this year and could use an impact player like Kirk to replace him. For now, Seattle projects to start Doug Baldwin and Tyler Lockett and also have offseason pickups Jaron Brown and Marcus Johnson in the mix. With the No. 19 pick in their possession, the Seahawks could be in range for the Aggies star.
Number 18 pick.
That was a nice shot at Mayfield.
I’m not a Seahawks fan so anyone can correct me, but I feel like with the state they’re in right now, they have much bigger needs than receiver. I like Kirk and I think he’ll be a good player, but he’s also probably not good enough for them to ignore getting offensive line help or some reinforcement for all the defensive starters they lost.
Not a Hawk fan either Mike but I like the idea of them drafting the kid. Make him a team captain and suddenly you have yourself a marketing goldmine with “Captain Kirk”. Rest assured the Klingons on other NFC West rosters who be trembling in fear.
Offensive line shouldn’t be any more priority than other needs like DL, RB, WR, and CB. They should take best player available. I would imagine they will trade down as usual anyway.
The OL will have Brown for full year, added Fluker, has Britt, and young guys in Pocuc, Ifedi, and Fant back. I wouldn’t ignore the position, just wouldn’t reach for a guy
That’s a pretty fair assessment of Rodgers, Brady, Manning and Brees, and probably of himself. I’m warming to this guy more and more, and really hope the Jets draft him.
He was rolling for the end zone in fine style until he added Manziel to that group. Obviously one of those rookie mistakes in judgement, but I still have to throw the flag.
But he was pointing out that Brady, Manning and Brees were not “explosive or [“flashy?” “seat of his pants?” pick your adjective] Johnny Manziel” Manziel was the “bad” counter-example, as opposed to if he had named Favre or Tarkenton, who might have been the flashy or exciting “good” counter-examples. I still think I’d challenge your flag.
Rosen’s biggest problem is his injury history. He had a concussion last season. He’s also had knee & shoulder injuries while at UCLA. He hasn’t been durable at all. That has to be a concern for any team considering drafting him
