With hours to go before the NFL Draft, the identity of the No. 1 pick remains unclear. There is increasing chatter from head coaches and GMs that the Browns will select Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield, Adam Schefter of ESPN.com tweets. This comes after weeks of reports identifying USC’s Sam Darnold and Wyoming’s Josh Allen as the only real candidates for the selection. 
Mayfield won the Heisman Trophy in 2017 and led the Football Bowl Subdivision in completion rate by connecting on 70.5% of his throws. He also set a single-season record by averaging 11.5 yards per pass and threw for 43 touchdowns against six interceptions. Still, questions persist about his build and character. For his part, Browns GM John Dorsey has shrugged off questions about Mayfield’s height and his behavioral red flags.
Mayfield going No. 1 would be a surprise, but there is no real consensus on any of this year’s top quarterbacks. Darnold and Josh Rosen were long touted as the best QBs in this year’s crop, but both players are coming off of rocky seasons that potentially exposed their flaws. Allen, meanwhile, doesn’t have a great on-field track record to match the hype of his arm strength.
So far, Dorsey has kept the identity of the draft pick close to the vest. It’s possible that we won’t know the identity of the No. 1 overall pick until it is read by Roger Goodell on Thursday night, and that will make for some serious drama.

Wow, taking Mayfield 1st overall sounds much less Browns like than your suggestion. I mean, they already passed up on Wentz and Watson, and you want them to pass up on another QB and reach for an OT? smh. I think the dream scenario for the Browns would be Chubb at 1 and Mayfield at 4.
No way they pass on the QB at 1 to wait for other teams to decide who they get at QB. I like Chubb but if he’s there at 4, they’ll take him there….otherwise they trade 4.
Agreed. I thought early that they’d go Chubb 1, and then come back with Mayfield at 4. But I think the Jets trade squashed that plan when they traded for 3. I still think the Browns will get both, though – just by taking Mayfield 1 and Chubb 4.
I’m not an expert like most of the commentators on seem to think they are, but it would not surprise me a tiny bit if the Giants end up taking Chubb at 2

They still need a QB. If they take mayfield at 1 can be the perfect plan to get Barkley at 4, darnold goes 2. Rosen goes 3
They gotta go Barkley. Allen will be there at 4, and the news that just came out about him should help ensure that.

Take Barkley at 1 then the QB left they like best at 4. Which I think if they are lucky would be Allen. There is no way they are taking Mayfield at 1 he isn’t the top pick in draft. I am not a Cleveland fan but you have to feel a bit sorry for the fans unless you are in their division I guess. They have screwed up so many drafts they have to get 1 right. This is the one they need to hit on with all the picks they have. I know Chubb is a big piece to pass on and they wouldn’t be wrong to take him either. I just think if they take a QB 4th it takes some of the pressure off.
Dorsey said he wasn’t revealing the pick until draft night. This is a smokescreen. I don’t know, but I still think they will take Darnold.
