The Browns will meet with Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson on Friday, according to a press release from the team. Jackson is not believed to be in consideration at No. 1 or No. 4 overall, but the Browns could consider him later on if he is still available.
The Browns are armed with three picks in the second round at Nos. 33, 35, and 64 overall. As unlikely as it seems, the Browns could opt to use both of their top picks on non-QBs and package two of those selections to move up and snag Jackson if they are especially impressed by him.
Taking, say, Sam Darnold at No. 1 overall and using a later pick on Jackson would make little sense since the team already has two QBs with guaranteed money on the roster in Tyrod Taylor and Drew Stanton. However, if Jackson goes into a free fall in the draft, the Browns could select him with the notion of moving him to wide receiver. Jackson has resisted such talk, but many evaluators feel that he has the athleticism to succeed as a receiver.
Will the Browns target Jackson over one of this year’s big four QBs? Occam’s razor dictates that they won’t and are simply doing their due diligence on one of this year’s most intriguing prospects.
Browns have a long ways to go, so if I were a Browns fan, rather than putting all that pressure on a qb at #1 overall, I’d prefer to take Barkley or Chubb at 1 and trade #4 overall to the bills or pats for their pair of first round picks and a little extra so they can continue to build a solid team for a qb next year.
Qb’s drafted to bad teams have little chance for success.. but adding a qb to a team that already has talent takes a lot of the burden and pressure off them.
Imagine Browns walking away from this draft with
1) Barkley / Chubb
2 other players drafted in first round this year
And Jackson with their second round pick where he can practice behind Tyrod until he’s ready mid season or next season
And an extra 2nd round pick next year for dropping down (bills will pay that price because they have to get one of the top qb’s this year)
Replace Lamar Jackson with DeShone Kizer and you just said what they did last year…..Brock was supposed to start but Sashi wanted him gone so they went to Kizer and 0-16. Enough with the passing ok top QBs in draft, take the shot and go with it….it’s not like Browns fans haven’t been through coaching and front office changes if that doesn’t work
They’ve done that time and time again and have not had a winning season since 2007. They traded for Tyrod Taylor to be starter and signed Drew Stanton to be backup, so whoever they take #1 will sit next year and possibly in 2019. Enough with the trading back to get more picks, it’s time to actually use them and stop with the deferring til next year.
How about Chubb at 1 and Barkley at 4?
You like picking in top 5 every year?
I wasn’t asking you. Butt out.
Nah
You know nothing about football do you
You, too.
Let the adults talk about sports, you keep playing your Madden
If the Browns are serious about building the offense around Taylor, they should consider Jackson since he fits the mobile QB mold.
While he’ll be there at the 4th, 10th or even 15th overall pick… I would love for the Browns to draft him #1! Continue the laughing stock that is the Browns organization. This guy isn’t even a realistic first round QB.
Imagine how explosive a Lamar Jackson-Barkley(along with Sony Michael in 2nd)-Landry-Gordon-Coleman offense would be! Along with their stacked line.
And then have Garret-Chubb-Ogbah rushing opposing QBs along with blossoming defensive talent.
DRAFT BARKLEY-CHUBB-JACKSON-MICHAEL
The Browns….Lol
FBA17……LOL
The Browns took Danny Shelton with the #12 pick in the 2015 draft and he has 1.5 career sacks. The draft picks are gold until the Browns pick them. Same old Browns…….
Danny Shelton is a run stuffer, not a pass rusher. he’s supposed to tie up blockers
Barkley at 1
Trade 4 to Bills for 12 and 22.
Take OL at 12 or best available.
Take L. Jackson @22. Right ahead of the Pats.
And if you think they may move up? You have the ammo. Trade 22 and 33 and a 5th rounder to love up to 15-19(maybe Baltimore, needs to reload) and take him there.
Because they’ve done that 3 or 4 times in the last 7 years. Maybe a joke of an organization like the Saints would do that, but Dorsey is too smart to do something that dumb. Take the QB at #1 and you will still have the choice of Chubb or Barkley at #4. They don’t need more picks, they need players with talent.
