Free agent receiver Allen Hurns plans to sign with the Cowboys, as he tells Josina Anderson of ESPN.com (Twitter link). It’s a two-year deal worth $12MM, report Adam Schefter of ESPN.com (Twitter link) and Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk (Twitter link).
The Cowboys officially announced the deal Saturday morning (on Twitter).
Dallas has yet to make major additions on either side of the ball, but it clearly wanted to address its receiving corps. While the Cowboys have yet to make a decision on veteran Dez Bryant‘s fate, Jerry Jones & Co. reportedly made a push for Sammy Watkins before he signed with the Chiefs, and also signed a complementary pass-catcher in Deonte Thompson.
Hurns is only 26 years old, but he hasn’t had much success since the 2015 campaign. During that season, Hurns served as the Jaguars’ No. 2 receiver behind Allen Robinson and posted a 64/1,031/10 line. Subsequently, Hurns’ role in the Jacksonville offense was drastically scaled back, while injuries have also limited him. He failed to top 500 yards receiving in either 2016 or 2017.
Hurns will join Bryant, Thompson, Cole Beasley, Terrance Williams, and Ryan Switzer in the Cowboys’ receiving corps. Dallas, cap-strapped as ever, could save $8.5MM by cutting ties with Bryant (and $12.5MM if he’s a post-June 1 release), but Williams is almost certainly stuck on the Cowboys’ roster despite his lack of production. The Cowboys would pay more to cut Williams than release him prior to June 1, and they wouldn’t net any savings even if Williams was a post-June release.
A number of clubs, including the Bears, Bills, Saints, Texans, Jets, Raiders, Panthers, Browns, and Ravens also expressed interest in Hurns, but Hurns only visited Dallas and New York.

LOL!
I 2nd that, but love the Dallas circus, what a stupid signing
It’s a good signing we’re moving on from oops Drop Bryant.
Dumb, dumb,dumb..bring in another mediocre at best receiver into an already crowded group.. If Terrance Williams is the odd man out, fine.. If they did this with an eye towards replacing Dez, good luck! This guy is bum.. even in his breakout year he had a couple long, fluky touchdowns that inflated his stats..
^ This
None of these guys can replace Dez! Hopefully they can trade Williams and his ridiculous waste of a contract.
They aren’t supposed to replace him. They are there to allow us to not reach for a WR, and also to bridge a gap. Pretty much every receiver isn’t great their first year so they are a stop-gap. I see it as a cost efficient signing.
For the reported 6 million a year? Not very cost efficient. And if these signings lead to a Dez cutting, that would be an attempt to replace which these new signings can’t do. I don’t like this move at 6 million at all. That money could have been spent on the D much better.
Us? Are you one of the Jones’? And Dez Who?
Ah, one of the most stupid arguments of all time. “Who’s we? Are you on the team?” Amazing insight, you should look into becoming an NFL writer!
Damn! Nice pickup by the Boys. Wonder if this spells the end for Dez. Possibly a trade?
Good signing, regardless of Dez’s fate.
How on earth is this a good signing? Paying 6 million a year to a guy who stays hurt and doesn’t produce when healthy doesn’t solve any problems. There are a handful of guys who could be drafted in the middle rounds who could do just as well as him for less than half the cost and they come with a 4 year deal.. this is a waste of precious resources
And playing for a puppet HC who does whatever the owner tells him to do…
Dallas could’ve made a few deep playoffs runs with a real HC
They will end up either releasing or trading Dez before the season starts
Trading him? There isn’t a team in the NFL or CFL that would trade for him.
Let’s go Cowboys
#Win,lose, or tie, I’m a Cowboys fan ’til I die!!
Ridley will be Dez replacement 2 years from now. Williams will be gone next year. It will be Dez, Ridley, Hurns, and Switzerland
Switzer next year. Stupid voice text
It’s switzer and you forgot Beasley. And jasold witten.
Thompson, Williams and Beasley would be a really expensive 4-6 Wr combo on a team that doesn’t pass that much. Not to mention none of those guys plays special teams which is usually a requirement for the last we or two on he roster.. you can’t keep 6 receivers and not have atleast 1 of them on all four units
One of these guys has to go.. maybe they can trade Beasley. If not him then it’s looking like Dez is gone and that’s a huge mistake
