The Browns have traded quarterback Cody Kessler to the Jaguars, according to ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter (Twitter link). The Browns have acquired a conditional 2019 seventh-round pick in the deal.Â
The Browns have now traded two quarterbacks this offseason after also sending quarterback DeShone Kizer to the Packers. Tyrod Taylor, who was acquired in a March trade with the Bills, profiles as their starter and the recently signed Drew Stanton will take one of the backup spots. The Browns are expected to take a quarterback with the first overall pick, so there was no room left for Kessler.
Cleveland didn’t get much in this trade, but Kessler didn’t have much value given his iffy performance in eight starts in 2016. The Jaguars, meanwhile, believe that Kessler has some potential, so he could be a candidate to take over for Chad Henne as Blake Bortles‘ backup. If Kessler doesn’t impress this summer, the Jaguars could release him without having to forfeit the draft pick to the Browns.
Heâll be fine there…….youâll just have to trust me on this.
What does that even mean?
Browns reached and drafted Kessler in 3rd round when many people had him going undrafted. When they asked Hugh Jackson on that he said âYâall gon have to trust me on this oneâ and it looks like he had no idea what he was talking about.
Like when he said he âisnât worth his saltâ as a coach if he canât get something out of Kizer
Surprised, Hue is usually spot on
Only one left to throw under da bus is hisself? BRILLIANT! How did coach oh fer keep his job?
Ohfer? Come one man, heâs got one win in those 32 games!
They shoulda trusted hue.
Kessler looked fine. He could complete passes- didnt throw ints- he was fine.
Problem was he couldnt stay healthy. He can be a good qb in this league. Considering the browns had 0 weapons on offense woulda liked to see what kessler could do with gordon landry and barkley.
Hahaha this is great
The Jets are offering Hackenberg for the No. 1 pick. Itâs a good deal. Trust me on this.
Clearly âSufferForTribeâ is Tom Coughlins personal account.
Itâs a joke about Hue Jackson saying âtrust me on thisâ after the Browns reached big-time to draft Kessler…it has nothing to do with how Coughlin or the Jaguars evaluate him
I thought Kessler had the potential to be a solid backup or low-end starter after his rookie year but he somehow regressed big time before last year so I canât say Iâm surprised. Hogan is probably a goner soon too.
You would think with a âQB whispererâ that Kessler wouldnât regress. He clearly did in 2017. And Jackson did nothing to help Kizer his rookie year and now both of them are gone. I doubt Hogan stays as well. What a waste of time for everyone involved.
Agreed
How did he regress? he barely got to play last year.
His regression was the reason he barely got to play last year…I think I remember hearing that he looked awful during offseason workouts, and obviously the Browns decided that it was better to start a complete unknown in Kizer over him
Dude couldnât beat out Kizer and looked terrible in the preseason. He went from 1st string to 3rd string. Is that a serious question about the regression?
Now if they can dump H. Jackson, Dorsey would really be the man.
I’m guessing that Dorsey has made it clear that after he traded for everyone under the sun, added the 1st and 4th picks overall, AND brought in a real offensive coordinator, the Hue is on a VERY short leash.
How that guy still has a job as a head coach is a giant mystery, right up there with how Marvin Lewis continues to have 15 lives as Cincy’s HC.
dorsey had NOTHING to do with the 1st or 4th picks
When your 0-16 are you supposed to keep every QB you had on the roster?
So what exactly are you saying?
Yes, but only until open auditions can be scheduled for the peanut and hot dog vendors working the home games.
Not sure any âaverageâ QB would have looked impressive with that roster in Cleveland.
If he ever plays in Jax itâs not like they will be expecting him to carry the team.
Just as they donât expect Bortles too.
To get anything for kessler should be a win for Cleveland. Should be playing in the CFL under Hue Jackson’s trust.
Making room for the return of Johnny.
Or reaching out to Bernie Kosar about the possibility of a comeback….lol.
