There will be plenty of roster turnover for the Bears this offseason, but it sounds like Jordan Howard is staying put. The Bears have “zero desire” to trade the running back, sources tell Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (Twitter link).
On Saturday afternoon, a report from NBC Sports Chicago ignited some Twitter buzz about a potential swap involving Howard and Jarvis Landry of the Dolphins. The Bears do have interest in Landry, but they apparently do not have interest in parting with Howard in order to bring him to Chicago. To that end, a league source tells Mike Florio of PFT that there is “no way” a Landry-for-Howard swap will go down.
Howard has turned in two quality seasons for the Bears with a combined average of 4.6 yards per carry. Last year, Howard started in every game for the Bears and ran for 1,122 yards and nine touchdowns off of 276 carries. He also added 23 catches for 125 yards.
A former fifth round pick, Howard remains under contract for two more seasons with cap charges of just $692K and $782K. Naturally, he is the kind of player that Chicago is intent on keeping.
This is an incredible non-story. (Yawn)
Well it’s not a story, it’s a rumor… but it sounds like you think it’s a false rumor. I’m curious why you’d think that?
Do you think Howard is a franchise changing RB? Because he isn’t. He’s a good, but unspectacular player. He fights for every yard, but he rarely makes impactful plays.
Do you think he’s irreplaceable? The Bears got him in the 5th round. Of the top 10 RBs in the league, less than half were 1st round picks. Most were taken in rounds 3 and 4. The position is littered with more impactful players who were taken in the middle of the draft.
Do you think he’s a tremendous fit with the Bears? They’re shifting to a west coast based offense. He can’t catch the football. A RB who can’t catch is a non starter in that offense…
Maybe the Bears don’t take this offer. But there’s little reason to believe they aren’t trying to move Howard.
2 years of proven able Howard at his prices dominate a year of Landry at 16 mil and the second year at ?…slot receivers can be found in flag football leagues all over the country, 16 mil for Landry is a joke Miami should suffer through it for not using the franchise tag properly
It’s a false rumor because there was never any chance they were trading him, so saying they aren’t is just inventing headlines for the sake of click bait. Sounds like you believe everything you read online. I bet you still believe Russia hacked the election too
The only way I see it happening is maybe cam Meredith for Jarvis Landry then they still have to fork out the bucks
Gramma would be pissed and kick Paces ass
If the Bears were intent on moving Howard in order to acquire multiple draft picks they could then trade up and get Barkley, AND somehow end up acquiring Landry or some other receiver in the process, I would have been impressed. Suffice it to say, a move of that caliber can’t possibly happen with the current gaggle of buffoons running the Bears.
Agreed, so frustrating.
O it’s possible… in Madden
Trading the #11 overall, plus a 3rd round pick to move up to a top 5 pick is not out of the realm of possibility.
I believe the Bears have the 8th pick and no 3rd round pick in this year’s draft.
I’m saying if the Bears would have agreed to the rumored trade with Miami, they could have flipped Miami’s draft picks for a shot at Barkley.
Probly trade Long and a pick for Landry, draft another qb in the first round, cut Meredith, cut white, keep payroll low, keep McCaskeys happy
Why waste a top pick on yet another QB? Trubisky is the future of this franchise, they need to gove him weapons.
