Former Dolphins kicker Cody Parkey intends to sign with the Bears, a source tells Adam Schefter of ESPN.com (on Twitter). It’s a four-year deal worth $15MM ($9MM guaranteed), reports Mike Garafolo of NFL Network (via Twitter).
Parkey’s signing, of course, is not the biggest news of the day for the Bears. Already, Chicago has agreed to terms with wide receiver Allen Robinson and tight end Trey Burton, giving them two of this year’s top available offensive weapons.
Parkey, 26, spent the 2017 campaign with the Dolphins after kicking for the Browns from 2015-16. Last year marked the best season of Parkey’s career, as he nailed 91.3% of his field goal attempts. In Chicago, Parkey will reunite with longtime Browns special teams coordinator Chris Tabor.
Heading into free agency, PFR had ranked Parkey as the top free agent kicker on the board.
Pace has had a good day but they’re still paying for the only truly dumb move he’s made- Releasing Robbie Gould.
Only truly dumb move? We talking about the same guy?
Gould himself said that being released was a wake up call and motivated him. Who knows how good Robbie would’ve been if they kept him.
Yeah, kevin white, not re-signing alshon, releasing sitton after a career year, pernell mcphee, mike glennon, the list goes on
I disagree. Alshon was a wasted talent on the roster and the Bears couldn’t muster up the cash at the time. Sitton and McPhee couldn’t stay on the field and on the ring side of 30. Glennon was a stop gag for trubisky and they never had any intention of keeping him hence the guaranteed money to appease him to sign in the first place. That contract is over with. Gould so far has been the worst move by pace and replacing him with Connor Barth.
Wrong side
I’m with axis on this one. the worst thing the Bears could have done was fire Pace like some wanted. i was very happy to see them extend him, they don’t need to change again, let this play out. pace has 2 years, if they don’t show huge improvement he’s gone. might only have one if they’re really bad this year, doubtful, but a very tough division.
I know you meant stop gap, but stop gag seems like an appropriate alternative to bad stop gaps.
Didn’t even make it this far down before reading your comment, JT. Great minds.
I know it was a typo, but referring to Glennon as a “stop gag” was really right on the money, and how I will refer to his Bears career from now on.
No GM bats 1.000
Who would’ve known White was an injury prone guy? That’s not uncommon for first round picks.
Sutton and McPhee are getting up there and not worth the money.
Also wasn’t worth the $15M he would’ve got.
Glennon, well, who else was out there at the time?
