The Dolphins are working in concert with Jarvis Landry to find a suitable trade and already one potential suitor has emerged. The Bears have interest in acquiring the slot receiver, according to Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald.
[RELATED: Dolphins Allow Landry To Seek Trade]
The Bears have a clear need at wide receiver this offseason and they also have the cap space to take on Landry’s one-year, $16.2MM tender. Presumably, the Bears would reach agreement on a long-term extension before acquiring Landry, giving them true value rather than a one-year rental.
Recently, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald‘s reported that the return for Landry will likely be a third-round pick, a late second-round pick, or a player. For what it’s worth, the Bears have seven picks in this year’s draft, but do not own a third-round choice. Their second-round pick is rather high (No. 39 overall) and their next pick doesn’t come until the fourth round (No. 105). Of course, that’s only a minor obstacle for a trade and there are other ways for the Bears to convey the value of a third rounder if that is the mutually agreed upon valuation.
Over the last four years, Landry has hauled in 400 passes for 4,038 yards and 22 touchdowns for Miami.
Swap first round picks. Give up a fifth next year. Boom. Done.
Miami wants way more than that
That actually NOT true.Down in Miami they know they will not get much because he n the 16mil
Move up 3 spots and a fifth rounder? Seems pretty light.
Not bad. My thoughts are sign Wilson and Richardson without losing draft picks and pay just a bit more for 2 Wr than you would for JUST Landry which to me is not a WOW factor to be giving up so much for. Giving up picks and an av of around 14 mil or so I’d rather have size in a wr , where Wilson would be a decent slot guy and Richardson can stretch def. pure speculation here
I like it. I think the Dolphins just want to get SOMETHING for Landry, instead of just letting him walk. Just by the way they are letting him seek a trade and he’s not going to hold the Dolphins offseason hostage and sign the tender early tells me he will be dealt.
I like it bro that would be tight
How does anyone have interest in a guy who lead the league in receptions but averaged yards per catch good enough for 114/117 in the NFL. Not to mention the 4.7 40 he ran at the combine. He’s just not very good, and could possibly be the most overrated WR in the league.
Baltimore has interest in just about any WR. They need serious upgrades. But the fact that he is tagged and wants 14mil a yr with 30 mil in guarantees i don’t see them going after him. They will more then likely go after Tavon Austin and if cut make a reunion with Torrey Smith.
AGREE OVER RATED, let dolphins choke on his franchise salary
The bears better not do this. Landry is so overrated
Oh disagree Landry is doing this on a crappy team with no QB. As a lions fan I don’t want to see him in Chicago.
I think he is a little overrated, but worth it if the price is right. Dream scenario is we get Landry for a reasonable deal and then sign ARob (providing the jags don’t tag)
Great hands, strong route runner and solid blocker, but not worth an early 2nd, id rather draft a WR in the 2nd. Landry also has some baggage.
anthonyd4412 is right. I think Bears could offer their second and fourth (or fifth) this year and two future thirds.
For a receiver on a 1yr $16mil contract? Not a chance. The 2nd rd pick on it’s own wouldn’t be more than enough.
He should be like Spaulding in caddy shack, he’ll have NOTHING and like it
I have been pushing for this move since last season, literally the perfect type of “security blanket” receiver for Mitch.
He is worth every penny simply because of his YAC. He is going to keep defenses honest and make Mitch’s reads alot easier
it’s a perfect fit and the Bears have the cap space to make it happen. he’s exactly the type of player Mitch needs in the slot right now.
Agreed. This should be one of the only moves we make, and then focus on the draft. Pace needs to take easy with the spending, he gets too trigger happy and we have missed on our fair share of off season additions.
Exactly. Everyone talking about how overrated Landry is, yet his skill set is perfect for what the Bears need for Trubisky right now.
I’d offer a 4th this year and a 3rd next year if I’m the Bears, then hopefully use the first two picks on helping the line, the CB situation, or maybe even drafting a WR in the 2nd if one of the top four happen to fall out of the first round and land in the Bears lap.
I like Landry, but he is not a legit #1. I would rather sign Albert Wilson for the slot, and try to sign Allen Robinson for the 1 spot.
I’ll be kind of surprised if Jacksonville let’s Robinson go. Even if they do, the Bears need multiple receivers. Landry would be a great 1B possession type to Robinson’s 1A defense stretching abilities (assuming he heals up).
Almost every target Trubisky had last year dropped several catchable passes. Sims, Howard, Bellamy… For as little as Wheaton and White played, I still recall them dropping some easy passes.
This team desperately needs reliable pass catchers and Landry is one of the best at doing just that. While I’d argue that he’s never had a QB that could get him the ball beyond short range, thus hurting his yardage numbers, the simple fact is that he has the tool set the Bears need for their young QB.
It seems like Jacksonville and LA aren’t likely letting Robinson and Watkins go (and both have a lot of baggage regardless) so there really aren’t any #1’s out there to begin with. I’d rather the Bears at least get a 1B type in Landry and hope he can be a legit #1 with Trubisky then see them bargain bin shop again or overpay on someone that doesn’t have nearly the track record Landry has.
The Bears will trade for Landry, sign another top receiver, trade Jordan Howard for a pick, and draft a pass catching hb, probably Barkley. They are committed to giving Trubisky weapons.
