Add David Amerson to the list of 2018 free agents. ESPN’s Field Yates reports (via Twitter) that the Raiders have cut the veteran cornerback. Yates notes that the defensive back’s $5.5MM base salary would have become fully guaranteed this week.
The 2013 second-round pick came into the league with the Redskins before being waived during the 2015 season. He was subsequently claimed by the Raiders, where he proceeded to start 12 of his 14 appearances. Following his four-interception campaign, Amerson inked a four-year, $35MM ($17.5MM) extension with the organization.
The cornerback had another productive season in 2016, finishing the year with two interceptions and a career-high 64 tackles. However, he was limited to only six games in 2017 while dealing with a foot sprain. He ultimately finished the year with 18 tackles and four passes defended.
Ok he was a top 20 corner in 2016 and then bc of injury in 2017 you cut him. That is stupid. Gonna be a underrated fa for sure. Would be a good fit on about every team
Time line it back further, he was very poor in Washington, and got cut
Apparently you have not watched a Raider game lately. Id say if your name isnt Khalil Mack, your jobs in jeopardy
Top 20 out of 32 teams…2 years ago. Not a big believer in logic are you?
Been cut by2 teams. Seems logical to me .
It’s perfectly logical to assume he’ll return to his 2015-16 form if he’s healthy next year. Why is it the biggest idiots are always the first to insult others logic?
He would probably be a good player to sign really cheap.
On a cheap “prove it” deal I think Amerson could be a decent find. It’s hard to blame the Raiders for cutting him at that salary though.
Hell, they’re the ones that gave it to him.
This is all about managing cap space. This moves tells us that they are confident enough in their 2017 #1 draft pick Gareon Conley to make him the starter across from Sean Smith. Amerson had an amazing 2015 with us, a good 2016, and a bad 2017. Time to move on.
