What a time to be alive. On Thursday afternoon, WWE chief Vince McMahon will announce the formation of a new football league, according to Darren Rovell of ESPN.com (on Twitter). 
Of course, McMahon has done this before. In 2001, he partnered with NBC to launch the XFL, a league with no rules and no viewership to match. McMahon’s experiment drew phenomenal ratings in its debut, but fans tuned out over time, leading to the league’s closure after one season.
It’s presently unclear whether McMahon will use the XFL moniker for his new league. McMahon’s Alpha Entertainment offshoot has filed trademarks for “XFL,” but the company has also earmarked “UFL” and “United Football League.”
Given the current political climate and the backlash against National Anthem protests during the 2017 season, McMahon may look to brand his league as a patriotic alternative to the NFL. He might be able to tap into something on that front, but his venture will not succeed unless he can field a better talent pool with bigger stars than last time.

Forget competing with the NFL. He’s already failed at that once. He has neither the money nor infrastructure to compete with that league.
But he can compete with the NCAA. Bring in former NFL coaches. Recruit the top high school talent. Pay them to play. Coach them to play in NFL style offenses and defenses. That’s a league that would fill a need and one that could succeed.

Interesting…I’ve always thought an NFL Legends league would be awesome…I doubt this is the thought process for this new “league,” but someone should create a league for former vets and NFL legends..
I’d definitely pay to see some type of game for NFL past and previous all-stars…Obviously it couldn’t be anything with significant contact, but heck, I wouldn’t even care if it is flag football, if I could see Steve Young throw to Jerry Rice or even Jeff Garcia throwing to T.O. one more time!!

Everyone was saying these protests were deflating ratings ad whatnot, and in my own bubble, I thought, ehh…What’s the big deal?? I doubt it has much to do with the protests, and moreso, just a matter of injuries to bigger stars…a lack of excellent, dominant teams, etc..
Well, at a cousin’s birthday party, I was watching a game, and I asked my neice and nephews to sit and watch it with me..To my suprise, they actually weren’t allowed to watch football anymore, because of the protests…So, it piqued my curiosity, I asked around, and apparently this is a common sentiment around several households in Middle Ga..Maybe a regional thing idk??..
Point is, maybe McMahon thinks he can strike while the iron is hot, but unless he’s able to attract top talent, it won’t last long..
I could see guys like Kaep, Manziel, and maybe they can attract prospects that don’t want to play in college idk, but it’ll certainly be interesting to see how everything develops…Wonder who the next”He Hate Me” will be?? lol
I just think people wanna watch football when the NFL isn’t on lol. Like when it’s not monday, thursday, or sunday, I’ll definitely watch the XFL. There’s a demand and there’s a businessman trying to make money off of it.
