Things might not be as bad between Le’Veon Bell and the Steelers as initially believed. The running back told reporters on Wednesday that the team has already presented him with an extension offer and the two sides are a lot closer than they were last year (Twitter link via Mark Kaboly of The Athletic).
Bell also disputed a recent report indicating that he was late to the Steelers’ walkthrough before their playoff game against the Jaguars. Bell says that the tardiness was due to personal reasons and coach Mike Tomlin was aware (Twitter link via Kaboly).
Earlier this month, Bell made waves by saying that he would consider sitting out the 2018 season if he’s franchise tagged for a second consecutive season. No one really knows whether Bell would quit if handed a one-year, $14.5MM tender, but it sounds like we might not have to find out. Last year, Bell turned down a $60MM offer from Pittsburgh. This time around, he could get more than that over a five-year period, or perhaps greater cash flow in the first few years.
Bell finished out the season with 1,291 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground. He also had 85 catches for 655 yards and two TDs, earning him a First-Team All-Pro nod.
Use the money on some LBs instead. His act is tiring.
By act do you mean being the best running back in the league? Bc I will take that for 5 more year easy
Bell’s greatness is testament more to his blockers than anything else. Just ignore how good DeAngelo was with the same plays and blockers. Point being: it’s the team, not Bell.
So his pass catching is also due to the linemen? By your theory Big Ben and Brown are only good because of the OL. Williams did his job but he was no Bell. Not even close.
Please ignore this Clown. Ask the Cowboys how it was when ZEKE was gone? Anyone can run behind their line, right?
He’s not the best in the league. I will take David Johnson or Gurley long before him. Not only statistically but also for being a decent person, not a thug.
Oh yea… he smoked weed, so he’s a thug? He must’ve given the high hard one to your mom or sister
You qualify for a job in the Browns front office based on your talent evaluation
Bell needs to get his crap together next season if he gets an extension.
Dude, just SHUT UP, please. You continue to post STUPID comments about the Steelers. “get his act together”. What the hell does that mean?? I guess he should try to be even better than being the BEST all around RB in Football, right? Or should he just take WHATEVER they offer him just to make you happy?
Time running out on the killer B’s pay the man and try to win that elusive title next two years then eat the cost on back end of the contract but go after it.
Gotta find linebackers in the draft in later rounds!!
The hard part is who will the casualties after paying bell ??
Give him his money. He has the tools that remind me of Barry Sanders with more power. He can stop on a dime and find a crease. Yes some of it is due to the O-line but he finds the holes given to him and attacks. You can’t break up the brown and bell team. Just ask the cowboys without Ezekiel. It’s a lot harder then great backs make it look.
Bell simply does everything really really well: running, catching, even blocking. I agree with everything you said. Anyone who thinks that Bell only looks good because his offensive line is good (which they are) needs to watch Bell play more closely.
I am a die hard Steeler fan but I just need to know how Bell reminds you of Barry Sanders. Barry was not a pass catching threat as Bell is Barry did not block like Bell does and Bell does not have the ability to take it to the house st any single moment
Bell runs high and initiates contact Barry ran low elusive and avoided contact please enlighten me how they are similar ????
If you want a comparison he reminds me of Ricky Waters more than anybody else
Not a lot of shelf life on him. I’d let him go now and save myself the headache 2 years from now.
That’s why your sitting at home posting on this forum.
Sorry I am as big a Steeler fan as anybody there is but I am sorry Bell is not the best in the NFL he can’t take it to the house at anytime and he runs to high being patient even catching the ball out the backfield he never breaks big gains after the catch
Therefore I don’t want Pitt to pay him top RB money and still be paying AB his money. AB is the best WR in the game Bell is top 3 RB but I think if franchised and traded for a 1st round pick (49ers, Lions, Raiders) and we pick up a tandem like NE or Philly uses it would be more cost effective allocate the money throughout instead of just a couple players. Now if he would accept a team friendly extension like AB did than I would be all for resigning him. I lived thru Rod Woodson, Chad Brown, Greg Lloyd, Kevin Greene & Hardy Nickerson all leaving so Bell needs to realize he will never be bigger than the team and humble himself with an opportunity to be a great player on a the greatest franchise. You take a little less to be a part of this and if he doesn’t understand that don’t let the door hit you on the way out
Plus you don’t tie that kind of money up into a player that could lose a season on a drop of a dime he doesn’t even have to have a bad piss in the cup he could just miss a test and he is lost because of the situation he put himself in and I don’t think he is worth the risk
You don’t take a little less to be a part of anything. You take what you are worth. You give knowledgeable Steeler fans a bad name with ALL that nonsense you just wrote
