The Patriots are bracing for Matt Patricia to leave, but it might not be for the Lions’ head coaching job. The defensive guru is also up for the Giants’ job and he prefers the G-Men to the Lions, Peter King of The MMQB hears.

If Patricia is offered the Giants’ head coaching position and accepts, it will have a domino effect reaching Detroit and beyond. If Patricia goes to the Giants, the Lions may pivot to Houston defensive coordinator Mike Vrabel, King hears. If that happens, Vrabel would be out of the running for the Colts’ HC job.
The Giants were abysmal in 2017, but they have lots of talent to work with on defense including cornerback Janoris Jenkins and defensive ends Jason Pierre-Paul and Olivier Vernon. If Patricia can get underperforming youngsters like Eli Apple on the right track, the Giants could return to having one of the better defensive units in the NFL. The Giants also have the No. 2 overall pick at their disposal, so Patricia’s preference towards New York is understandable.
LOL Only could happen to the Lions. Not saying Patricia is the answer but….
Patricia to the Giants?? as a pats fan I’d like to see him in Detroit
it’s the Giants.. not the Jets 😛 though get popular in New Jersey…
I’d prefer if everyone stays until Brady’s equipment collapses to the ground as he becomes one with the universe, a la Obi-wan kenobi, after insisting on returning a kickoff. McDaniels and Patricia are stilly young, they’ll only get better. There will be jobs for them when they want them.
Easy now he’s no Jedi … if it wasn’t for his line he wouldn’t accomplish half what he has. Sorry , I just struggle to glorify the QB position when the success at the position is clearly dictated by the performance in the trenches.
Your right in that offensive linemen don’t get enough love, but a good O-line doesn’t make a great QB. Look at the Browns. Their O-line has been/is pretty decent yet their QB situation is a mess.
I hope the NFL are all over Brady, and his balls.. don’t need another deflate gate
Brady is more Sith than Jedi. Not in the idea he’s a bad guy, more in the “let the hate flow through you” way and using anger. Peyton was a Jedi. Boring as dishwater, calm, he was like a monk.
Apparently Matty P isn’t as smart as people say. If I were Patricia I would take Lions job over Giants because he doesn’t have the personality for New York, he already knows the Detroit GM, the Lions’ fan base and ownership group is a lot more forgiving, and if he took the Giants job he would be constantly compared to Parcells/Belichick and Tom Coughlin.
Giants is the better job though. They will give whoever they hire a really long leash. They don’t like firing coaches as quickly as they had to with Benny Mac.
But it seemed like Coughlin was on the hot seat every year and he won 2 SB’s! Plus the media is not as patient in NY and the bar is much lower in Detroit.
Of course he was on th hot seat, it’s NY! Thats the way the media is.
The lions have a much better roster as of right now and much less stress having to do with the NY media and he has a great relationship with lions GM Bob Quinn……. it should be a no brainer for Patricia
Plus as a lions fan I would rather Vrabel over Patricia anyway
Patrica or Shurmur – Vrabel as DC
Vrabel won’t leave houston unless it’s for a HC job. And the lions really want a defensive HC so that it doesn’t interfere with stafford and Jim bob cooter
I don’t get why Cooter even has a job. Dead last in rushing since he took over as OC is unacceptable. Sure, Stafford is the best he has ever been but that’s not because of Cooter. Bring in an OC who can run the ball and Stafford would be even better.
I don’t think Cooter is to blame for the lions running game. They have never had a true rb1 while he was there and had a below average o-line for the run. Also lions didn’t have a running game before Cooter so I don’t think the blame falls on him. And as you said he has stafford playing at his highest level of his career. Lions WILL sign a big name RB or will draft one with an early pick
