T.J. Yates is back with the Texans. The quarterback agreed to sign with Houston on Friday morning, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (Twitter link).
After losing starter Deshaun Watson for the season on Thursday, the Texans moved fast to sign Matt McGloin. Yates will dress and serve as the No. 2 QB for the game, but McGloin will not be on the roster Sunday’s game against the Colts. Tom Savage, the initial starter for the 2017 season, will be the first man up.
Yates, 30, has seven regular season starts on his resume, plus two playoff starts with Houston. This offseason, the Bills signed him as a reserve, but a concussion in the preseason led to his release in September. He worked out for the Titans and Bengals in October before circling back to the Texans here in November.
Smart move. Savage won’t be under center after halftime knowing their coach.
Queue the Kaepernick crowd in 3, 2, 1….
Whether he knows the system or not, you could never convince me that TJ Yates, Tom Savage, and Matt McGloin are near as good as Colin Kaepernick. Like it’s impossible for anyone to say that with a straight face. Now if you wanna say you don’t want “the distraction” then that’s one thing. But come on now
49ers fan here. Lap is not very good. He has a long throwing motion. Can’t read a defense. If his first read is covered play is over as he lost slot of speed last couple years and his running is not the same.
If you were a true 9ers fan you would know he had no one to throw to last year, yet his QBR was still higher than some QBs. Now let’s take his QBR from last year and compare to some QBs rating this year shall we? HE would be 14th ahead of Derek Carr, Stafford, Taylor, Goff Bortles, Newton, Manning, Rivers, Winston, Flacco and Dalton. I would rather have Kap over all of those guys except Carr and Newton. Point is he’s not as bad as a lot of people make him out to be, seems like some are just salty 9ers fans like yourself who are mad they didn’t win a Super Bowl in their 3 year run
What has T. J. done Yate-ly for anyone?
T.J. is the NFL equivalent of a 30-something fringe LH reliever who stays in shape because he’s probably going to get the call when someone’s primo set-up guy gets hurt. I can see him being in and out of the league for another decade.
Please please play TJ Yates in their next game against the Jaguars!
McNair needs to be forced to sell the Texans, NBA did it with the clippers, while I feel McNairs comments weren’t as bad as the previous owner of the clippers he should be forced to sell but not banned from going to any games. Owner makes racist comment, makes a PR move then goes out and signs 2 white QBs who are incompetent and wouldn’t have a job in the CFL
