Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, Patriots owner Robert Kraft, and Texans owner Bob McNair, amongst others, will be deposed and asked to turn over all cell phone records and emails in relation to the Colin Kaepernick collusion case against the NFL, a league source tells ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter (Facebook link). Seahawks coach Pete Carroll and owner 49ers Jed York are also among those on the deposition list, Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports (Twitter link) hears.
Other owners, team officials, and league officials may also be deposed, but those are the individuals confirmed for now.
Here’s more on Kaepernick:
- Colin Kaepernick’s attorney believes that the quarterback will sign with an NFL team soon. “I think within the next 10 days somebody will sign him,” Mark Geragos told Adam Carolla earlier this week (transcript via BleacherReport.com). “I think somebody’s gonna sign him. I think the NFL has to come to their senses, and realize every day that goes by just proves the collusion case even more.” Geragos may have confidence, but there’s no reason to expect a Kaepernick signing anytime soon. A potential spot opened up this week when Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson suffered a season-ending ACL tear, but Houston opted to sign Matt McGloin and T.J. Yates. For now, Tom Savage is the starter in Houston and there are no known plans for the team to audition Kaepernick.
- NFL spokesman Joe Lockhart deferred to the NFLPA on the topic of having Kaepernick at the next meeting between players and owners (Twitter link via Ian Rapoport of NFL.com). “We’d welcome his participation, but that’s an issue for the players to determine,” he said.
I hope Kaepernick gets a huge legal victory against the league and owners. Pretty obvious collusion.
Right it’s obvious collusion. Other than completely pissing of your fan base by signing him, getting a cancer in the clubhouse and a mediocre to way below average starting QB, what team wouldn’t want to sign him? Michael Vick thinks this guy’s a bad signing.
Goddamn right, the negative attention alone makes sense why he isn’t signed not to mention the 49ers has to rewrite their playbook in crayon so he could understand it
Gonna be hard to prove in court.
Your takes are always pure garbage. Teams have a right not to sign someone. Its not a right to play in the NFL. Everything you do, you are held accountable
Violating a collective baragaining agreement is grounds for lawsuit therefore there are ramifications for breaking that.
Huh? Making himself a lightning rod for bad publicity is why he can’t a job.
You do realize he would be a Raven right now if his stupid girlfriend didn’t disrespect the owner. Kaepenerick can be a above average QB but has to be in the right situation. The offense has to be built around him and there just aren’t that many zone read teams or teams that could go to zone read out there. Add that to the headache he would bring and his history of being a coach killer, what team would really want to bring him in.
I hope Colin loses his case! No one wants him because he is just not that good
Kap is a bad quarterback. Teams will not win with him. Why is it so hard for people to understand?
Kap had a bad O-line when he was “terrible”. No QB in this league can be successful with a bad O-line, and a good O-line can make almost and NFL QB look good.
If the GOAT says he’s impressed by Kap and that he deserves a chance to play, then the guy deserves a chance to play. No offense, but a Tom Brady scouting report holds more weight than an NFL Trade Rumors commenter scouring report.
Damn right football players who have played with and against this man have said he should at least have a job. So all you nobody commenters you’re wrong and I’m sorry you’re wrong
Players say that to look good and not burn bridges.
Never at sorry for your own opinion.
And your a nobody commenter like the rest of us so come on, get real. He can’t throw on target and can’t read coverages. Only took a year for defensive coordinators to figure him out. Kap is simply not a talent.
Aaron Rodgers has played behind as bad and worse OL’s. Hell, Rodgers played behind an OL that consisted of DL in the playoffs. I know you’re not trying to compare Rodgers to Kaepernick, but your statement is completely false. Russell Wilson is another QB who has played behind a bad OL.
Kaepernick just isn’t a very good passing QB.
If Brady was so impressed and thinks he deserves a chance to play, why wasn’t he incredibly vocal pushing the Patriots to sign Kaepernick after they traded Garoppolo?
Couple pro bowlers on the O Line bud.
Is Kap a good starting QB? No. Is he a borderline starter-worthy QB/good backup? Yes. He’s definitely better than some of the trainwrecks other teams have at the backup spot.
Was he willing to take a veteran min contract, no.
someone please sign the Moronic AzzClown Idiot already so we can be rid of the every day reporting of his name. Sign him and then release him later and then he can not prove collusion,,,,sheeeeezzzzzeee
Kaepernick is a lousy player and a SHPOS and Geragos is an ambulance chaser. They deserve each other.
Yup, I agree
Canada owns the rights to him and they won’t even sign him
It really seems like Kap haters are mad because he didn’t win a super bowl for the 9ers or cause his kneeling, there’s literally no proof he’s a bad QB stats say it all and stats say he’s around top 15-20 QB. Explain how he’s a cancer and explain how having him on a team would be anymore of a distraction than all those players already kneeling? Explain that it wouldn’t
No one cares about leading a team to the superbowl that was 5 years ago. Yes we all know he was good back then. 5 years is an eternity in football. He is not even close to being a top 15-20 QB in the leauge. You also proved our point. Many other players kneel and it doesn’t effect their contract status. Kap is a liability for a team with all the baggage he would bring and no one is desperate enough for that
Top 15-20 starting QB???? You on drugs?
Or did you mean top 15-20 backup?
I agree to a point Clark- I think Kaepernick is easily a good enough QB to be a backup in this league.
But I don’t think owners are calling each other to collude, telling others NOT to sign him. But owners have to be thinking… why disrupt our fan base, and possibly the players, while focusing national attention on someone who most likely won’t be playing? I mean, if it were Russell Wilson then surely a team would take the chance that the distractions and possible disruption could be worth it.
His stats put him on Par with Ryan Fitz so…
He’s a waste of $, he is on decline, and there are better QB options out there. Putting all the off-season crap aside, I don’t think he would have gotten signed either way
Trader! Go to the cfl you can kneel all you want trader. This is America love it or leave! In your case Leave
Who is Kaepernick trading??
I think he can’t spell traitor.
Was it collusion when Tebow was let go by the Pats and never found work in the NFL again, nope… It was because in the NFLs eyes he wasn’t worthy of a roster spot as a capable QB along with nobody wanting the traveling media circus that would come to town with him. It’s obviously not exactly identical to kapernicks circumstances but the results are similar in regards to some of the reasons neither were given a job.
The guys the Texans signed to replace Watson aren’t as good as Kaepernick. Sad taking a knee and using your fame to bring awareness to an issue costs you a job.
Yates and McGloin both have history with O’Brien: Yates previously with the Texans, McGloin at Penn State. Knowledge of and familiarity with the offense, two things Kaepernick does not have.
Besides, Kaepernick doesn’t want to sign anywhere. That would mean going from being the main focus to just one of many kneeling.
Kap was under contract for this season, but decided to opt out. If it’s anyone’s fault for him not having a job right now, it’s his own.
Not worth the drama.
I’m assuming the majority of you that believe Colin Kaepernick is a “distraction” also believe that Black Lives Matter isn’t a noble cause.
There is a difference between a “noble cause” and the reality of what the organization actually is.
He’s basically guaranteed himself to never step onto the field again. Won’t even get a CFL or Arena League deal at this point.
Ahhh wrong…..Seahawks Russell Wilson has had a bad OLine for years and still produces quite well.
Sorry the previous commitment was in response to, HereComeThePhillies2018, and rediculouse comment.
Oh, and by the way, the Seahawks offer the moron a job as backup to Russell Wilson and he turned it down!!!
When Richard Moss wanted to set MLB up for the biggest collusion cases ever, he walked into the Cubs GM office with a contract signed by Andre Dawson and only the amount left blank. The result was MLB Collusion Cases I,II ,III (they were so epic that the Federal Court gave them roman numerals and dozens of players recovered millions).
Kap showed up in Seattle and a few other places DEMANDING starter’s $$$$$. This allows the owners to show that his unemployment had to do with his unreasonable demands.
