The Browns are now 0-6 and 1-21 since their current regime took over to start last season, and the franchise may be looking to shake things up. The Browns are reaching out to front office personnel with an emphasis on football executives, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. Meanwhile, a Browns spokesman tells Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com that the report is “false and erroneous.”
Currently, Sashi Brown and Paul DePodesta are heading Cleveland’s front office. Neither has an extensive football background, with Brown having previously served as a lawyer before joining the Browns and later ascending to the executive VP job without a scouting background. DePodesta, of course, made his name as a baseball exec prior to becoming the Browns’ chief strategy officer. The Browns don’t have a GM.
It’s unclear what job(s) the team is targeting execs for, but it looks to be an attempt to infuse some football experience with personnel that have unorthodox backgrounds for an NFL front office.
The Browns have two games remaining until their Week 9 bye, making their post-London week a natural time to re-evaluate.

What aren’t they targeting….? I think if I were Browns fan, I’d say let em move too London, via the Ravens….England can even keep the Browns name…..PLEASE just give us new expansion team with a new fresh name and with NONE of the people that have been associated with the previous organization, including the owner……PLEASE end the nightmare. Welcome Your New Cleveland Fighting LeBrons. My bad….Only Keep Joe Thomas.
The biggest Mistake they made when they got the team back in 1999 was not immediately hiring Ozzie Newsome to run the new team. Plus keeping all the accumulated future Draft Choices the Browns had made via trades when they were still technically the Browns. Or letting the Browns make future selections for their team when it came back in 1999. The NFL Should have considered the Ravens an Expansion team. and let the Browns make picks in 96, 97,98, and 99. So technically all the 96 picks by the Ravens should have been Browns. So the Browns would have ended up with Jonathan Ogden and Ray Lewis. Instead in the 1995 draft the Browns got Craig Powell. Probably why the Current Browns are so afraid of drafting players from Ohio State. Craig Powell was drafted by Belicheck after he had his Kyle Brady induced Meltdown. He could not get Kyle Brady so he repeatedly traded down. The Browns MO is trading picks accumulating more so they can draft more stiffs based on Potential and not production. Two of the biggest losses in Browns history were vie Free Agency. Losing RT Mitchell Schwartz, and Center Alex Mack. I did not think Schwartz was that good in Cleveland but he would be a Huge Upgrade right now. the only thing I can say about the Current RT is that he is slightly better then the guy who started their last year Pazdor who it is argued might be worse then John St. Clair. Bears fans laughed at the Browns after they signed St. Clair. That is one of the major Problems with the Browns. They sign Bargain basement free agents. Tretter had 31 games of Experience in the NFL only 10 as a Starter, 8 Games and 0 Starts. 16 games and 3 Starts. Last year 7 games and 7 Starts. Three Guys the Browns should have drafted are Deshaun Watson Obviously. Pat Elflein and Kareem Hunt. I touted all three of them and Cam Robinson out of Alabama. It would have helped either Hogan or Kizer immensely had the Browns kept Gary Barnidge. They draft Njoku and then shortly after they cut Barnidge leaving them with no real veteran at the position just like at Receiver. Britt is Dwayne Bowe 2.0 only that he has played more. I see a lot of Similarities between this Browns team and the 76-77 Tampa Bay Bucs. Spoiler Alert the Browns will play a close game next week against the Titans then probably get blown out in London aganst Former Browns HC Putrid Pat Shurmur and the Vikings. Actually I think in that game they should force Putrid Pat to Pass and not Run. Make him revert back to his real self as Putrid Pat when he calls so many pass plays that they lose. Last year the Vikings threw the ball more then 70 percent of the time in the 6 losses they had when he took over as OC. This year Shurmur lucked out the last 2 weeks. with the Trubisky Gift int, and Aaron Rodgers Injury. otherwise I think the Vikings would be 2-4 and not 4-2. So far they are throwing 55 percent of the time but in the 2 losses it was almost 60 percent pass. You still have to be balanced to win games consistently or at least close to it unless you have Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady or maybe Drew Brees currently. The Giants won last night because they ran the ball and tried to run it. and stayed with it. The Giants were 59 percent run last night.
Except Ozzie didn’t want to come back, he was extremely loyal to the Modell’s and wasn’t going anywhere. And drafting players when the team wasn’t playing!? What player would want to be drafted and sit up to 3 years.
Still trusting the process……although they could use an offensive coordinator, and possibly some additional help from an experienced set of eyes in the front office.
They’re the youngest team in the league, and they are going to take their lumps.
Still an embarrassment and nothing looks like anything will change.
Where do we send resumés?
I would like to know that as well. Maybe my Older brother and I should start our own Scouting Service. I said Watson was the best QB in the Draft and so far he is proving it. Mahomes is behind Alex Smith never know when he might get a chance to play though. We will see how good Hundley is in Green Bay now that the Franchise is out for the year. The Browns have a promising defense with very little talent on Offense. The Two best players are Crowell and Duke Johnson. Njoku is Raw but with Potential which seems like the way the Browns conduct their Drafts on Potential not actual Production on the Field.
Hire someone who has a Football Mind, and can pass the Eye Test which Clearly Sashi and Depod don’t when it comes to Football. The Browns Drafts have been based on Analytics, Combine Metrics, and Potential. When they should have looked at Production. Plus when they look at Free Agents They go after Bargains and quick Fixes. In the Draft I said Take Deshaun Watson, my older brother and I both agreed. The Browns pass on guys year after year from places like Ohio State. Joey Bosa, Ezekial Elliott, Pat Elflein, Malik Hooker. Or guys who went to other Ohio Schools and Grew up in Ohio like Kareem Hunt. Sashi apparently thinks Ray Farmer was a Good GM not a Horrible one because the Browns continue to make the Same mistakes year after year. Kenny Britt is just a Retread of Dwayne Bowe. All the Receivers on their Roster are someone other teams did not want, or guys that teams reached for in the Draft or were cut by other teams. Duke Johnson is a better WR especially in the Slot then any Receivers currently on the team. I liked Hogan coming out of Stanford, but he is no Deshaun Watson. The Oline for the Texans is a mess. But its better then the Browns. Ray Farmer ran so many people out of town it is not even funny. I thought Mitchell Schwartz was Bad at RT with the Browns. and its kind of weird that Cameron Erving is Starting with the Chiefs right now but sucked with the Browns he could not play Tackle, Guard or Center. And how this suspect Special Teams Coach Tabor stays in Cleveland is beyond me. He basically got Chud fired as HC when the Browns had the Patriots Beat. Pettine got fired because of Ray Farmers Shenanigans. Hue Jackson Deserves better. The Browns apparently still need an offensive line coach who knows what they are doing and one who can make the young guys on the line better. They still need a Center and a RT. Not some Lineman like John St. Clair or Pazdor. Tretter barely played in Green Bay. The Steelers seem to do well every year in the draft. And they rarely sign big name free agents, Green Bay does the same. It was absurd in another article that the Browns had Trubisky, Mahomes and then Watson on their Grading scale. The one thing former Browns coach Dowaill Loggains has been doing with the Bears is Run the ball. Even Putrid Pat Shurmur has picked up on that. The Browns are not good enough on the offensive line to pass block consistently and give the QB time to throw to our array of Suspect Receivers. That features Zero reliable Veterans. The Browns got rid of Taylor Gabriel a young talent who goes to Atlanta and Flourished last season under an assistant Coach Kyle Shanahan who got run out of town by Ray Farmer. and came close to winning a game with C.J. Beathard at QB and about as little offensive talent as the Browns currently have. The Browns past on all these quarterbacks Wentz, Goff, but the worst to me is passing on Watson. Maybe Hue should give up play calling duties. They got smoked by the Texans even though the Texans defense is decimated by Injury. The Browns would probably lose to the 76-77 Tampa Bay Bucs. The offense did show signs yesterday by moving the ball. and the defense managed a score. But penalties hurt you big time. Sashi Needs to go. Scott McCloughan is available. The Browns need to get better scouts as well. unless Sashi and the rest of the GM’s since 1999 have done their own thing. Which might be the case.
