The Saints will release fullback John Kuhn, according to Field Yates of ESPN.com (Twitter link).
New Orleans had already parted ways with Zach Line earlier this weekend, so the club currently has no fullbacks on the roster and only three tight ends. That could be a temporary arrangement, as Mike Triplett of ESPN.com tweets, and the Saints could search for another fullback/tight end type in the coming days. Indeed, Josh Katzenstein of the Times Picayune reports (Twitter link) that Kuhn could soon be re-signed.
Last season, Kuhn played on roughly a quarter of the Saints’ defensive snaps and a quarter of the club’s special teams plays. In that time, Kuhn rushed 18 times for only 37 yards, but scored four touchdowns. He also added 16 receptions.
go Pack go
Why would he be released and resigned?
they had to make room for some other signees and he’s a 4 year veteran and doesn’t have to go through waivers. he isn’t going anywhere
Veterans that are vested will be locked in to a guaranteed contract if on the roster for week one. Guys like this will often get signed after week 1, then the team has a lot more flexibility and can sign and release week to week with no guarantees. Additionally, he has proven valuable enough that he pulls a decent salary which then makes him expendable as the teams would rather pinch pennies and replace him with a TE/H back type they can plug in. Then when they need those tough yards and a true FB they miss him, see the Giants and Henry Hynoski. Shame these guys have gone the way of the enforcer in hockey.
And sure enough, the story is he’ll be signing in NO soon.
Amazing that Kuhn played 25% of his snaps on defense. Two-way player alert lol.
