The Dolphins announced they have suspended linebacker Lawrence Timmons indefinitely. Timmons went AWOL on the team prior to the Week 2 game against the Chargers.
It’s not immediately clear whether the team will work with Timmons to facilitate a return. Per the terms of the CBA, Miami can suspend him for up to four games for conduct detrimental to the team. If that happens, the remaining guarantees in the veteran’s contract will void. That would free the Dolphins from the rest of the two-year, $12MM deal he inked in the offseason.
Timmons apparently skipped town to visit the mother of his child in Pennsylvania. He did not notify the team of his plans beforehand, causing the club to file a missing persons report with police.
Until Sunday, Timmons had not missed a game since 2009. It sounds like he’ll be missing several more, unless he can make good with team brass.
Back to the burgh
I honestly don’t think that the Steelers would do it at this point. Timmons would have to be a backup at least initially, and he doesn’t play special teams. They’re happy with Shazier and Vince Williams
The steelers wouldn’t take him because they like their starters and he doesn’t play special teams?
Have you even considered what happens if Shazier is injured?
How about Shazier and Williams?
If one of them gets injured, then it’s an entirely different situation. Note that my first sentence includes the phrase “at this point”.
The Steelers are not going to trade for Timmons and take on that contract to sit him on the bench (no team would); actually, I’m not sure that his contract would currently fit under the salary cap. But regardless, assuming that Miami would release him, there is no way Timmons willingly goes anywhere unless he is sure he will start, and I don’t think he would come in and immediately start over Vince Williams. As for Miami trading Timmons, it can’t happen while he’s suspended, and it won’t happen because he’s making too much and this incident increases his risk in the eyes of other teams for them to offer much of anything.
This is the one of the weirdest stories especially since Timmons has a clean track record and well respected in the clubhouse.
Hope the phins will bring him back after the 4 game suspension
I hope so too Sports
