As expected, the Vikings have declined Teddy Bridgewater‘s fifth-year option. The news was confirmed by the team today as it picked up the 2018 option for linebacker Anthony Barr.
Recently, Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer admitted that he has “no idea” whether Bridgewater will be able to play in 2017. With that kind of uncertainty surrounding the one-time face of the franchise, it’s hard to argue with the Vikings’ decision. The 2018 option is not a full guarantee, but it is guaranteed for injury and the Vikings could not reasonably take that kind of risk since Bridgewater may never be the same player.
In fact, we don’t know for sure that Bridgewater can return to football after suffering a gruesome leg injury last summer. For now, the Vikings will plan on having Sam Bradford as the starting QB with new pickup Case Keenum as the backup.
Sad to see for Teddy. Such a bright future wrecked by a freak injury.
Such a shame. Really showed a lot of promise. As a lions fan, scared me a little.
Am I the only person that didn’t think he was good? Seriously the most TDs he ever threw for in a season was 14… The ironic thing is the Vikings traded back into the 1st to get the 5th year option on Teddy
People who always go to this lazy analysis should check the TD totals for Norv’s QBs over the years besides Rivers who he didn’t groom, Cam Cameron did. They all look comparable to what Bridgewater put up in run heavy offenses. Troy Aikman, the Hall of Famer, never put up more than 20 in a season under him for instance. Brad Johnson had like 23 tops. So you might want to look at the coordinator and not the player. The question is did he execute what they told him? They certainly didn’t hide him because when they got down in games, they put the game in his hands, and last I checked, he got the team to the 4 yard line or something in his lone playoff game, and his kicker with the yips missed wide right. But lazy people would say that Sam Bradford was better last year when the running game was completely abandoned with Peterson out and Norv basically fired a quarter through the season, despite him doing what he’s always done, lead a team nowhere, which he’ll do again this upcoming year with more excuses to why he’s been paid $100 mil+ so far in his career with these lackluster results on his resume.
