Christine Michael visited the Patriots on Tuesday, according to Field Yates of ESPN.com (on Twitter). Michael was released by the Packers earlier this month along with fellow running back Don Jackson, creating room for the three running backs selected in the draft.

Michael signed a new contract with the Packers earlier this offseason, but it didn’t take long for them to have a change of heart. The Texas A&M product was once viewed as a high-upside player, but it’s not clear what C-Mike can bring to the table at this stage of his career. The running back averaged 5.1 yards per carry in a limited sample for the Seahawks in 2014, but he has not been able to replicate that success in the last two seasons.
The Patriots, meanwhile, are pretty well set at running back after signing Mike Gillislee and Rex Burkhead. James White, Dion Lewis, Brandon Bolden, and D.J. Foster are also under contract, giving the team six quality veteran RBs on the roster. Michael could be added to the mix as low-cost competition, but it doesn’t seem like his chances of making the team are all that high.
If this actually happens for some reason, I would have to think that Lewis is as good as gone
Dion Lewis? There’s not way you actually believe that
They have compensatory rights to LeGarrette Blount after he already experienced a weak market coming off 18 TDs; Christine Michael would be super cheap to them, and would give them flexibility since they could get a 4th or 5th rounder for Dion Lewis in next year’s draft. This is a team that traded Jamie Collins and Chandler Jones during a championship winning season and they already hung onto Malcolm Butler this offseason so there definitely is reason to think they could trade him. James White’s pass catching ability makes Dion Lewis expendable and the Pats front office has always shown they will do whatever is necessary to make their team win.
I agree
I’m guessing the theme here is that if the Patriots sign ALL of the RB’s on the market, there will be teams out there without any?
True, But there probable going to release dj foster and bolden is just a special teams.
Yeah they realistically have 4 RBs in Gillislee, Burkhead, White, and Lewis. I wouldn’t be shocked if they trade Lewis for a pick since he’ll be injured by the time the games actually matter for NE anyway. Bolden is a RB only in name and Foster almost got cut last year and didn’t play so I don’t think he sticks around. I’d rather have Michael than Foster anyway.
Blount and gillislee sharing duties and Lewis as a third down back! Don’t need Burkhead he will be released
