The Packers are reshaping their running back depth chart. Moments after cutting Don Jackson, the Packers are also releasing Christine Michael, league sources tell Adam Schefter and Field Yates of ESPN.com (Twitter link).
Michael signed a new contract with the Packers this offseason – a one-year, minimum salary benefit deal with a paltry $25K signing bonus. Already, Green Bay has decided that it would be better off without him. After cutting the 26-year-old, Ty Montgomery stands as the team’s only running back under contract.
Green Bay claimed Michael off waivers from the Seahawks last fall and the former-second round pick proceeded to handle 31 carries for the Packers down the stretch. Before joining GB, Michael spent seven weeks as Seattle’s clear-cut No. 1 running back and posted two multi-score games during that run.
This is just plain stupid. Why wouldn’t they bring the guy in a ket him compete for a spot?
That’s our GM for you….an idiot
Oh shut up. You were probably one of the ones calling him an idiot when he traded down too.
You know if a team actually played him he has decent #s. Idk what you expect from 30 carries. 254 Career Carries, 1080 Yards, 7 TDs and 4.3 Y/C
The Packers are a Montgomery injury away from a disaster at running back. I agree with drafting a running back or two, but drafting three and cutting Michael doesn’t make sense to me. Add in that the running backs they picked aren’t exactly studs, maybe the T-rex Ted has something up his sleeve.
Yeah I don’t understand the cutting of Michael. I will say I am intrigued to see what Aaron Jones does though. I really liked that pick by them.
Michael isn’t very smart and struggled to learn the playbook and offensive audibles which put Rodgers at risk when he didn’t go the right direction multiple times last season. We are only going to be carrying two other RBs along with Monty and Rip. I’m pretty sure both Williams and Jones are more than capable of backing up Monty. Then they can place Mays in the practice squad to develop and use as depth if someone gets injured. Otherwise, Ted might be looking to sign a better veteran like Blount or Charles. So I wouldn’t get to worked up for dropping our 2nd string practice squad RB (behind Crockett) and one who has been cut 4 times in 4 years.
Montgomery and the guy they drafted will do fine but they do need at least one more RB and then should try to have another one on top of that. I wouldn’t be surprised if Brandon Boldon or someone like that ends up in Green Bay by the end of the season
