The Chargers have released offensive lineman Orlando Franklin, a source tells Adam Schefter of ESPN.com (on Twitter). After drafting two guards, the Bolts apparently felt that Franklin was too pricey to keep. The Chargers will save $3MM against the cap by releasing Franklin, but they are still on the hook for $3.5MM in guaranteed cash.

Franklin, 29, came to the Chargers as a free agent prior to the 2015 season. The veteran had three seasons to go on his five-year, $35.5MM pact but his release doesn’t come as a huge surprise after two lackluster seasons. In 2015, he missed six games due to injury. Last year, he appeared in every regular season contest, but he graded out as one of the seven worst qualified guards in the NFL, according to Pro Football Focus.
The Chargers are now committing to a youth movement on the offensive line with draft picks Forrest Lamp (second round) and Dan Feeney (third round) set to take on prominent roles. Los Angeles is also expected to find a starting spot for offensive lineman Max Tuerk who missed his entire rookie season.
He has the best picture in madden
Texans need to pick him up
You can have him…
Gonna prove to be a big mistake the depth is gonna be needed!! Reasons Dunlop, fluker and real bums and are the 2 players that got him hurt! Barksdale sucks and lamp should be lining up an RT
I just wonder why it took so long for the Chargers to seriously improve their offensive line. They’ve been making minor adjustments ie,King Dunlap, Joe Barksdale, Orlando Franklin etc. the past few years. Okung and Barksdale will be their weak points on the offensive line this year.
they should have cut Dunlop last season and never should have signed barksdale to that contract!! Pulley should be the centre going forward, slauson and left guard and lamp at RT!! The RT and LT are gonna be the reason the oline is gonna still look bad this year!!! Slauson and franklin were the best guys on the oline last year when a team has 3 very bad players on the oline there’s no way they can produce at a high level!!
The reason they signed those guys is because they had nobody on the roster that was any better. I blame the GM for that.
Even the 3rd round pick from last year sucks what a waste of a 3rd rounder and that was the gms pick! Chargers needed another edge guy
If you are referring to Tuerk, I think you are wrong. Some people said he would have been a first or early 2nd round pick if not for his injury. He sat out all last season. He’ll get a chance to prove himself this year.
The chargers scouts had a 6 round grade on him!! And from what I heard He can’t even snap the ball right!
Maybe he’ll play guard. Either way, we will find out this year.
What do you think the starting line up will be?
Okung and barksdale at tackles, Slausen at center and Lamp And Feeney at guards. Like to se Pulley in there instead of Barksdale.
How would this look? In this order okung, feeny, pulley, slauson, lamp!! Vets beside the rookies to guide them.
Not bad. At lest you would get Barksdale out of there.
Yup he lead the league in every bad catagory!!
I’m glad to see they realize that they had to get some nasty back on their line and their new offensive line coach can only be an upgrade from the last one they had.
Looks like Pulley might be starting at center with Slausen and Lamp at guard Okung and Barksdale at tackle.
