The Seahawks have told teams they’ll only part with Richard Sherman if they receive “a very good player plus a high draft pick,” an NFL source tells Armando Salguero of The Miami Herald. When considered in tandem with the cornerback’s hefty contract, that’s a major expenditure for any interested team.
While the Sherman trade talk has been bubbling for weeks, the latest news on that front has made it seem as though a deal is unlikely. Sherman himself has vacillated between being nonchalant and serious about the trade rumors, but his most recent comments indicate that he doesn’t see a deal going down. Meanwhile, the Patriots seem to be out on Sherman for the time being. Now that we know Seattle is seeking a big haul, the odds of a deal don’t feel quite as high as they did earlier this week.
Sherman’s deal calls for cap hits of $13.63MM and $13.2MM in each of the next two seasons. However, if a team trades for him, they won’t be on the hook for his $2.2MM prorated bonus. With an $11.431MM cap charge (adjusted for the bonus deduction), Sherman would have the ninth-highest cap hit for any corner in the NFL this year, which is a bit more palatable than his current No. 4 position.
Eagles: Jason Kelce/
Definitely not enough.
We don’t need another tight end. We need offensive line help
My bad Keller is a center
Jim, Jason Kelce is an OL. You’re thinking of Travis, who plays for the Chiefs.
Saints could send Unger back to Seattle plus the 11th overall pick.
Jason Peters and the 14th pick from the Eagles
LOL Peters will soon be retired and is so far out of his prime.
LOL at what you just said. Jason Peters is the best LT in football.
Peters is still in his prime. Why do you think he wasn’t cut?!?! He would be a fantastic pick up for Seattle
Call me crazy but doesn’t Pittsburgh seem like a decent fit. It pains me to say this but Le’veon to Seattle for Sherman helps the secondary. If you’re going to pay for a player I’d rather have a high end CB than an over priced RB.
if you think that trade happens you’ve lost your mind. that only happens if the Seahawks throw in a 1st and 2nd.
hahahahahahahahahahaha no way bell leaves for a cb on the back half of his career.
I like the get rid of Bell part. Not the bring in Sherman part.
Pittsbutt would never do that trade. Bell is the best RB in the league and in his prime. Sherman is at the very end of his prime, maybe even out of his prime. Never happening.
Lol….you crack me up dude….funny as hell
Johnson is the best RB In the league
Browns
This maybe a very long shot.
Jets trade Sheldon Richardson and a second round this year and next.
Seattle send Sherman and a 3rd.
Once again very long shot.
Butler and next year’s first for Sherman and a 4th in either this year or next.
I’d say the 9ers 2nd rounder and Tremaine Brock to Seattle for Sherman
Top pick plus talented player with that contract, distraction, and aging talent. Good luck. Sherman isn’t going anywhere for that.
Colts may be buyers. Anthony Castanzo carries a big cap number for a team up against the cap… Could pair him with a mid 3rd round pick which would be tempting for a CB with 2 years left on his deal and Father Time catching up.
Dismantling a franchise:
Step 1: Dump Beastmode (now we have an idea that Wilson isnt all that hot!) REPLACE Beastmode.
Step 2 Dump one of the best corners in the league because…. we didnt learn yet from Beastmodes exit?
Sherman is out of his prime.
If they want a pick and a good player then seems like if a team is considering this, then I would choose malcom butler who is younger and cheaper and not a locker room distraction or just draft a corner in the draft. This is supposedly a deep db draft. I mean Sherman is a great corner, just don’t see how that asking price makes sense to a team.
Oh so now hes down to top 5 in the league? My bad, get rid of him.
Yes I realize that my bad
If I were Seattle, I’d ask Cleveland for Joe Thomas & their 2nd round picks in both 2017 and 2018 for one of Seattle’s comp 3rd rd 2017 and Sherman.
No way he gets traded for 2nds and a lineman.
What would you do during the laughter? Would you hang up or stick through it and see if they countered your “offer”?
One reply that it’s too little, the other too much. It’s all a mute point anyway as it’s now known that Sherman only wants to be traded to a contender. Should be interesting to have him on the Seattle sidelines this year…
It’s too much because it says “their 2nd round picks in both 2017 and 2018” which means 5 total picks (2 this year, 3 next year) as well as Joe Thomas for Sherman and 1 3rd round pick. Thomas and 5 2nd round picks is way, way too much for Sherman and 1 3rd round pick.
Thomas is in his last year of a contract, about equal in $$ as Sherman, and has some back issues. Heck, I’d go as far as sending Cleveland all three 3rd rd picks if they’d include their 3rds in 2017 & 18.
The Browns aren’t any one player away from respectable, let alone an aging CB. There’s no way they send out Thomas for anything except younger talent or draft picks.
And this proposal could make it Thomas and 7 total picks (5 2nd round picks and 2 3rd round picks) for Sherman and 3 3rd round picks. Still way too much for the Browns to have to give up.
No, you misunderstand.
> Seahawks give Sherman and all 3 3rd round picks in 2017
> Browns give Thomas, and the 2nd and 3 rd picks in 2017 and 2018.
Seahawks gain draft position and two picks when they truly need them next year. Browns gain an extra pick this year and a shut-down CB that has more years left than Thomas.
I was just going off what you said originally “I’d ask Cleveland for Joe Thomas & their 2nd round picks in both 2017 and 2018”. The way that was worded made it appear as asking for every one of their picks in the 2nd round both years which would be 5 and then adding 3rd round picks to that.
I still wouldn’t do that trade because they have no one to replace Thomas with right now and I doubt Sherman would want to play for Cleveland, so he might pout, retire, just dog it or some other such nonsense and the Browns end up getting screwed. I would just pass on him completely. Let some other team deal with it.
This draft is weak on tackles and deep on cornerbacks. It would be easier for the Browns to find a player comparable or a bit worse than Sherman in the draft than it would be to find someone comparable or a bit worse than Thomas.
Agreed, and with all of your comments. I didn’t realize Cleveland had more than their picks in those rounds when I made my original comment. It’s all a moot point anyway. It sounds like the Seahawks will go another route, if any. Still, if you want to really mess up your year and get the 2018 top picks, we’ll take Thomas off your hands. Make us an offer. You can have our basketball-playing LT Fant in exchange!
Green Bay should offer Bulaga or Cobb and their 2nd Rd pick. Spriggs can slide into the starting RT spot or Allison can play the slot while Sherman anchors their young secondary.
That trade suggestion reminds me of the Champ bailey for Clinton portis trade
Gronk and a 3rd rounder for Sherman
Any team that is trading for Sherman must be a couple players away from a super bowl.. With corner as a position of need. I think Sherman falls off after this so you’re probably not resigning him. Who can win within 2 yrs W a need:
Raiders Chiefs Cowboys or Packers. Pats if they trade Butler.
Cowboys still have cap issues and I don’t see a player they are able to give up in return. Chiefs have cap issues too. So Pats trade 1st pick next year for Sherman and trade Butler to a team that missed out on Sherman.
Might have to be a three-way trade. Sherman to Patriots, Butler to another team, picks for Butler to Seattle.
Since Sherman has declared that he only wants to go to a SB contender, the 3-way trade idea seems like the only one that works. Seattle may have a mass exodus of players in 2018 and should consider any trades that stock up rounds 1-3 next year, especially 2nd rounders. Hate to make NE better, but options are few. I’d add the NFC’s Atlanta, TB, Philly, NYG to that list, but I’d rather trade to an AFC team other than NE. Cheaters should never prosper.
The browns send Joe Thomas, the 12th pick this year, and pick 52. And a second and third next year for Sherman an Russell Wilson and ND we throw in osweiler
Too much exhaust leaking in to your car?
The bucs send Doug Martin and there 2nd round pick
I say trade a 2nd rounder for him and bring back Romo! Let’s get it done Jerry!
