After three years away from the NFL, it sounds like Ray Rice might be pursuing a different career path. The former Ravens running back has taken a job as a running backs coach at Don Bosco Prep High School in New Jersey, a source tells Dianna Russini of ESPN.com (on Twitter).

Don Bosco is one of the country’s top high school football programs and the Bergen County powerhouse recently shook things up by parting ways with Greg Toal and replacing him with former Rutgers quarterback Mike Teel. Teel, in turn, has hired his former Scarlet Knights teammate.
Last month, Rice indicated that he would not give up on his goal of returning to the NFL. His new coaching gig is probably not a white flag towards a return to playing, but Rice may be coming to terms with the fact that he won’t be getting a call. He may also view the high school coaching job as a good way to rebuild his public persona.
Even putting the obvious issues aside, Rice is a 30-year-old running back who didn’t look all that great when he was on the field in 2013. The New York native averaged just 3.1 yards per carry in his last NFL season, a far cry from his career-high 5.3 yards per carry mark in 2009. Ultimately, signing Rice would bring about a public relations firestorm that just isn’t worth it.
Boxing coach?
Such a wonderful role model for our youth.
Y’all some di@ks he know what he did and won’t ever play in the NFL again so good for you ray
So the man made a mistake like everyone else on the planet. So what? He has pa8d for that mistake in a way non of us would ever fathom. When you or I get arrested there is no public announcement, our lives are destroyed the moment we are accused. Yes he did some terrible things, but since then he has done everything right, seems like he’s truly sorry and is trying to turn the page. Meanwhile the online community orly worthless children lash out and call names every chance they get. Grow up. If you get arrested does that mean you should never get another job again? Nfl players are pa8d to be physical and hit others. Sometimes that mind set effects daily life. Time to turn the page and let him live his life.
I don’t believe knocking someone out in an elevator is considered an “accident” even if she spit in his face, you don’t knock someone out. It wasn’t even self defense.
He has paid for it by losing his job… do you know what would happen if you or I got convicted of a criminal charge? We would probably both lose our jobs. So, no he hasn’t “pa8d in a way that we can’t even fathom” we can fathom it, hell I don’t even know if he got jail time.
Also, there can be a select public announcement on the news if your crime is severe enough. Hell, local news reports on almost everything that is above a parking ticket these days. If he got into a domestic violence case where the police were called, there is a high chance you’re showing up on the nightly report.
And you’re also being a hypocrite, by calling us “worthless children” who “lash out and call names” when you are the one who is basing your argument on “he didn’t do nuffin” then lashing out (like a child mind you) and calling anyone who opposes your views a “child”z
And yes, NFL players are paid to “hit others and get physical”, however, they are not paid to knock out their significant others in a hotel elevator. Those are two separate things, and the fact that you state “they are physical get over it” just makes me concerned how you could place domestic violence and “hitting others” (who are trained professionals, who have spent years getting tackled mind you)
And last (but certainly not least) you fail to realize that this is him living his own life. He’s turned that page by choosing to join one of the best high school football programs in the country. And again, the fact that you can’t place two and two together just concerns me.
Gimme a break! He should of considered the consequences before he punched her. IMO he got what he deserved.
Teach your daughters, wives, girlfriends, etc… Do Not Spit In Someone’s Face, especially a man’s. Immediate precursor to Ray Rice and Joe Mixon incident. Bull seeing Red.
God that’s a disturbing statement. How about we teach our sons, men, frankly everyone… to not hit people? Sure, you shouldn’t spit in someone’s face, spit back for all I care, but what Rice did was an over the top retaliation.
Ray Rice made a mistake. He paid for it with his career. He has a foundation that helps out kids. He has funded scholarships for high school kids & has paid hospital bills for kids that were unable to pay their bills. He speaks to high school & college about the wrongs of domestic violence. Yes, what he did was horrible and there is no excuse for it. At least, he didn’t act like he did nothing wrong like Greg Hardy did. He made terrible mistake, but we all make mistakes & deserve a second chance. People can learn from their mistakes and grow from them. Now, if he does it again, then he doesn’t deserve a third chance
Hardy is a psychopath. He needs a head doctor.
It mind boggling how people call everything a mistake
And Deadspin’s reporting that Teel and school AD said, “No, not an employee.” There’s always MMA.
I mean people accepted Mike Vick back b/c he was talented. Animal torture and cruelty are like the training wheels of serial killers. People use the “he served time” excuse – like Mike Missanelli everyday he talks about Joe Mixon in Philly. Except, to go to jail you have to go to trial and go through that process. Ray Rice was indited, he went through a program and didn’t go to jail. Greg Hardy had his charges dismissed b/c he probably paid off the girl off-books. Joe Mixon accepted a plea deal and the civil cases were thrown out.
The only reason people care is because NFL players get paid 6 to 8 figures per year. If the salary in the NFL was 50,000/year no one cares. 500,000/year people then say “well its a privileged”. If you’re earning 500k in your trade you say “you’ve earned it” so there’s an underlying “you didn’t earn it” jealousy that infects people’s mindset + the visual aspects of what happened.
Donte Stallworth killed someone – DUI vehicular manslaughter. Served 24 days in jail + 1000 hrs of community service. Paid off the family. Then played 3 more years age 30-32 earning 900k for 82 yards, 860k for 309 yards, and 875k for 63 yards.
Because this was 2009 and we didn’t have as much social media – we had twitter & facebook but they weren’t used like they are today.
Ray Rice arguably would have been or still could be a productive player in the NFL, especially when compared to a Killer like Stallworth. But bc there is a video, he is not in the league, and apparently cannot become a high school running back coach.
