Giants defensive end Owa Odighizuwa is stepping away from the NFL. The former third-round pick took to Twitter moments ago to announce what could be termed as a soft retirement.
“I have all love for everyone.. at [this] point [in] time, I believe it’s in my best interest to take some time to get away from the game,” Odighizuwa wrote.
We heard earlier this year that this would be a “do-or-die offseason” for Odighizuwa. The 2015 third-rounder didn’t do much in his two NFL seasons and he acknowledged that he’d have to step it up in order to stick in New York.
“It’s real important for me,” Odighizuwa said. “That’s how I’m approaching it, that it’s kind of do-or-die in terms of my preparation and getting ready. You have to exhaust all of your resources into training properly and getting ready for the year. Really pouring everything you have into preparation.”
Odighizuwa had two years remaining on his Giants contract.
Good riddance. Bad wasted pick. Many hi draft picks have been busts under Reese and this guy along with Marvin Austin, and a bunch of 2nd and 3rd rounders have been flips. Thats the reason we had to go on that huge defensive spending spree last year. Because too many mid round picks haven’t worked out.
He’s horrible very weak and knows it
not man enough to try and face the music The world will never here about him again
I’m sure you’re so much better?
when will jerry resse decide he is in over his head and step down, too many misses on draft picks especially high round picks totally unacceptable
I suppose what he did for the defense, and drafting Beckham when no one else gave him a look isn’t anything.
Admittedly JR has had ALOT of misses. But you cant ignore his hits in recent years either (i.e ODBJR, LC, Pugh, Richburg, EA) Albeit Drafting isnt his strong suit but he is more than worthy of being the Giants GM. Name 10 franchises in the league with better personnel than the Giants. This isnt franchise mode on Madden no team/Gm gets everything correct, but yet he has maneuvered salaries and players around in the off-season respectively and constructed a contender. ( despite our OL and LB weaknesses.) IMO he has showed his worth as a GM, that alotta teams would salivate at having. Stop whining, when a bust drafted player doesn’t pan out. The Giants are a stable and respected franchise with alot of upside…have some faith n show some support for our own. #BigBlue #NYG #GMen #NFL #Giants
I’d love to get this guy and turn him into an inside linebacker. Just needs a position change and get athleticism to play up.
I agree with Joe & st1300b. JR isn’t my favorite GM and I was calling for some major changes last year as well. The man isn’t Ozzy Newsom, however he is more than capable of doing his job.
So, now, we have any whole to fill (justifiable DE) pick in the first round perhaps. Player’s want to play for our team for a number of reasons. Ownership has a long leash and respectable history of treating player’s like family! Let’s win at least 1 more ring b4 Elite Eli (tongue & cheek) sets out to pasture.
Just another in a long line of bad talent evaluaton. JR is a terrible gm, the picks he hits on walk and play well other places ala Jospeh. He kept Jenkins over Joseph horrible decision. He was forced to spend huge to fix those kind of mistakes. Hankins will be a perfect example.
Maybe it’s Mark Ross but in the end the buck stops with JR.
Blowing it on 3rd picks draft after draft kiils an organization. Hitting it big with the 10th overall pick isn’t something to hang your reputation on. Filling the rosters with 4-5 players every draft is how the great Gms stay competitive. Shame we deserve better Mara and Tisch need to wake up.
Landon and OBJ were great hits, but Pugh isn’t anything special, but your correct, he has done better or he’d be unemployed. Lets hope Apple and Perkins make a huge jump like Collins did. Honestly I didn’t see Collins doing what he did last year. A pleasant surprise indeed.
