There’s reportedly a chance LSU running back Leonard Fournette will go No. 1 overall to the Browns in this month’s draft, but Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com doesn’t expect that to happen. The odds of coming off the board with the top pick continue to favor Texas A&M edge defender Myles Garrett, though Cleveland could give some consideration to North Carolina quarterback Mitch Trubisky, notes Cabot. The Browns do have another first-rounder, No. 12 overall, and they’d have interest in taking Fournette there, Cabot writes. However, it doesn’t seem as if Fournette will still be available then.
Garrett, meanwhile, informed Sam Alipour of ESPN The Magazine that he wants the Browns to draft him, vowing to get revenge if they don’t. On why he should be the first choice this year, Garrett offered: “Because I’ll be a difference maker from day one. And I’m not gonna be in any trouble. I’m just gonna make plays and bring a good atmosphere to your organization. And I’m gonna start winning and winning now. And because if you don’t draft me No. 1, I will punish your team for the next 10 to 12 years. I’ll knock your QB out of the game every time we play you, and I’ll have to kick the hell out of No. 1, whoever it is.”
More of the latest draft-related news:
- Buffalo continues to show interest in potential first-round quarterbacks. The Doug Whaley-led Bills, who are reportedly “in love” with Clemson’s Deshaun Watson, met with Trubisky on Sunday. Before doing that, the Bills worked out Notre Dame’s DeShone Kizer on Saturday, according to Tom Pelissero of USA Today (Twitter link). Team brass, including owner Terry Pegula, also had dinner with Kizer.
- University of Washington cornerback Kevin King will visit the Eagles, Raiders, Browns and Ravens this week, reports FOX Sports’ Charles Davis (on Twitter). King, a prospective first-rounder, received an invitation to the draft, adds Davis.
- University of Miami quarterback Brad Kaaya met with Dolphins head coach Adam Gase last week, relays Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. The Dolphins are unlikely to end up with the projected mid-rounder, though, as they probably won’t consider selecting a signal-caller until late in the draft, per Jackson.
If they want fournette why not try and trade down a few spots and stock pile another pick or two.
Because they don’t want Fournette. This was just another stupid rumor started by Jason La Canfora. He does stuff like this out of spite.
I have to say Myles Garrett is a pretty bold dude. But I like what he had to say. I would draft him without thinking twice. Let him destroy quarterbacks on other teams.
When it comes to Fournette he’s injury prone. We need a back who can stay healthy especially in the AFC North.
Dang, he even makes our ugly uniforms look good.
We’re going to trade up from 12 to get Lenard unless chi takes him. And we’ll keep the 1st pick of day 2 for a safety or QB:
I hate the thought of trading up. There will be a great player at 12 when we pick. We should keep our pick. If he’s gone by 12 then he wasn’t meant to be a Brown
We have too many picks considering we kept all of our draft picks from last yr. We must and will move up…..
Fournette at 1 is just stupid. Please stop.
I agree. No running back is worth number 1 pick overall
Zeke would beg to differ
Still not worth the number one pick
Even if the browns have to “settle” for McCaffrey they win at 12. He would be an excellent safety valve for any qb. Take whichever qb is left in the second round because they will be better than anything you have now.
His is the season of lies. There’s no truth to this.
Man that rumors some click bate. If it is true… They should just give out Brown Bags to fans, with pre cut eye and mouth holes.
Agreed, if they flat out take Fournette at 1, it would be a silly move. But another twist to this rumor is that IF they are interested in Fournette, it would likely be in a trade down. That is not me saying that, I read it on another “reputable” site (which I will not name out of respect for profootballrumors.com).
If this kind of deal was to take place, it could be a good thing if the price was right, but the Browns would have remain in the top 5.
The right price to me is this—–Say Chicago is the team looking to move up, as they need a pass rusher. They pick at #3, so it would be a 2 spot move up. Washington was the last team to trade up within the top six (they went from 6 to 2 in 012). They gave the Rams that 6th pick + 2 more ones, and I believe 2 two’s. That was 2 more spots, and it also was for a QB. But this is the #1 overall pick, and an elite pass rusher is the next best thing. So I believe the Browns should demand no less than Chicago’s 3rd overall pick (obviously) plus their 2nd round pick this year, their 1st round pick next year, and lastly their 2nd round pick in 2019. That is the same as Rams/Skins deal minus 1 first round pick.
The Browns could then draft Fournette. They also should combine that 2nd round pick from Chicago with the 2018 2nd round pick from Houston to move up to #6 (the Jets) and draft Malik Hooker if he is still on the board. If not, try and land edge rusher Derek Barnett at #12.
If this type of deal were offered, the Browns should jump at it. But it is doubtful a team would offer such a deal. But it is fun to think about !
If Cleveland didn’t pick a QB at 1 or 12, they should and would likely move 33 for a late 1st rd pick to get that additional 5th year option.
Cowboys would likely trade 28 for 33 and then a 4th rounder, maybe a late 3 if Cleveland has one.
Myles Garrett is number one, and they will not trade down. Trading up is not in the cards for the Browns unless they feel the player they are getting is better than the picks they used to get him. Now another year of control for a prime position like QB would be nice, but at the same time, my money is them getting Webb/Dobbs and skipping on the top four guys.
If you are the Browns the only trade that makes sense IMO is with your 2nd round pick. Trade it to the Saints if there is a QB sitting there that you like. 5 yrs of control vs 4 is ideal for a qb. Otherwise stand pat.
New England will move Garapolo to Cleveland for #12, a second round pick, and Brock Osweiler.
New England will draft Christian McCaffery with #12 and win the f’n super bowl again.
I was hoping the Eagles would draft McCaffery but i have a feeling one way or another he ends up on New England
Only if Brock restructures… and he wont. HE’LL LOSE MONEY IF HE DOES!!! Which is way we trade up for Leonard. This regime hasn’t touched the rb position….HELLO
Why in the world would anyone give that much for Garappolo? They drafted him the 2nd round 3 years ago. He’s played 94 snaps before he injured his shoulder. I keep wondering what the fascination is with this dude.
It’s Cleveland that’s why someone would give up that much for Garapolo.
They screwed up big time trading Wentz to the Eagles.
They are going to lose Trubinsky before 12.
They need to make a splash.
The owner is all about PR.
If they trade the 12 (Eagles pick) and next years 2nd round pick (Eagles pick) plus Osweiler for Garapolo
What have they lost.
New England will have to renegotiate with Osweiler but if he wants to win he will renegotiate.
Let’s be realistic for a second. Went did ok with the Eagles. Do you really think he would have had that much success behind our offensive line? The answer is NO! And if Trubisky isn’t there at 12 then oh well. This year’s quarterback class is weak. And honestly I don’t see anyone who is better than what we have now in Kessler.
I do agree the Browns need to make a splash but it’s not with JG. And besides that, to get JG you already know the asking price would be a lot higher than that. There are plenty of holes to fill on both sides of the ball. IMO they should take the best player available on draft day. Haven’t done it in the past So it may work this time.
