The Browns have discussed the concept of trading up from No. 12 into the top eight picks with three clubs, according to Mike Silver of NFL.com (Twitter link).
A number of teams are reportedly willing to trade back, a list that includes 49ers, Bears, Jets, Titans, and Bills. It’s possible that trades involving top draft slots could be cheaper than normal this year, as some teams believe there’s a lack of “overwhelming” prospects at the top of the draft.
Tennessee, specifically could be open to trading down — and already own a later first-round pick at No. 18 — and Titans general manager Jon Robinson says it’s “50/50” as to whether his club actually uses both the No. 5 No. 18 selection, according to Terry McCormick of TitansInsider.com (Twitter link). The Panthers, too, may be willing to move down if a certain group of players, including LSU running back Leonard Fournette, isn’t available at No. 8, tweets Mike Garafolo of NFL.com.
Cleveland, meanwhile, would likely be moving up with an eye towards drafting North Carolina quarterback Mitch Trubisky. If general manager Sashi Brown & Co. ultimately select edge rusher Myles Garrett first overall, they could look to land their long-term signal-caller just a few picks later. The Cleveland front office is reportedly mulling a move up to No. 5 or No. 6, and franchise owner Jimmy Haslam is apparently pushing the club’s decision-makers to take a quarterback early in Round 1.
How many times has Cleveland drafted their long term signal caller in the first round? Trubinsky will end up another McCoy.
wasn’t colt a mid round pick?
Sorry got him mixed up with Brandon Weeden. Another year they had 2 first round picks. The last 2 times Cleveland has had 2 #1 picks and took a WB with one of them they managed to take Trent Richardson, Brandon Weeden, Justin Gilbert and Johnny Manziel.
Sheesh QB not WB
Ouch
They had their signal caller last year…Wentz, and traded there pick (him) away. Clueless organization with no direction. I feel for the fans.
*their. Damn Google keyboard.
Wentz threw 14 picks and fumbled 14 times. Let’s wait on anointing him a franchise QB.
How funny will it be if they trade up…..and take someone other than Trubisky?
I think it would be smart not funny.
Exactly, but I want the opportunity to laugh at Mary Kay again.
McCoy was drafted in 3rd round. They drafted Couch, Quinn, Weeden and Manziel in first round.
They should seriously just avoid drafting a QB entirely in this draft. Build the team first, then find your QB. If they could grab Garrett, Foster and a DB with the first pick in Round 2, they really could be heading in the right direction. They could then chase Cousins or Garopollo next offseason. They certainly have the cap room.
They should just move to Baltimore again and start over.
When “sufferfortribe” said move up and not take Trubisky, I think it’s a genius call…..Of they stay with defense. If we got to the 5th or 6th pick, guys like Marshon Lattimore, Jonathon Allen, Rubin Foster or maybe even Solomon Thomas or Jamal Adams could be there. Add those two( Garrett and one of the above) to our best players now , like Danny Shelton, Emmanuel Ogbah, hopefully an improving Carl Nassib with the stud LB we got from the Patriots, Jamie Collins and Christian Kirksey, well suddenly we would be 100 times better. Also with Gregg Williams as defensive coordinator things could get interesting. QB isn’t vacant. Cody Kessler isn’t a bum, and we already ate the salary of Osweiler, so let’s see what he’s got on camp. There will be talented abs later like Favis Webb of California and Josh Donna of Tennessee in the third or fourth round. Plus next year the big two of Sam Darnold, USC and Josh Allen of Wyoming . Free agents like Kirk Cousins and Garoppolo and A J McCarron will be there. With a young improving defense that we could have, a better offensive line and ample cap space, I don’t think they should panic this year with s high draft choice on the qbs that are there this year.
Stupid Google spell check, my first comment isn’t Favis Webb… it’s Davis Webb. And Josh Dobbs, plus it’s not there will be talented abs, its talented qbs Sorry
You’d think that Haslam would’ve learned from forcing the Manziel pick not to get involved. The best possible way to get a long term QB is to wait until next year, there’s so much more talent in next years draft and FA.
If the Browns are trading up to the top 8 it better be to get Malik Hooker or Jamal Adams if he falls. They desperately need playmakers on defense and this is how they could add two in one draft. Assuming they draft Garrett at 1.
Every year come April, “next year’s draft” is the place to look for a franchise QB. The problem with that is Cleveland has no control over what happens a year from now. For all we know the could end up with the 5th pick and miss out on the top QBs. Or one could tear his ACL, one could return to school, and one could have an awful season. Point is, if they like a QB in this draft and think he will be successful, they have to take him. They cannot keep looking to next year if there is someone they like just because it seems like the QB class could be full of premier talent.
Any news on Josh Gordon reinstatement they could use his talents
