Conventional wisdom has the Browns selecting Texas A&M edge rusher Myles Garrett with the first overall pick, but Cleveland has not yet made a final decision. Some in the Cleveland organization prefer UNC quarterback Mitch Trubisky, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.com (Twitter link), who adds the Browns’ personnel team is split between Trubisky and Garrett.
[POLL: Is Myles Garrett A Lock For No. 1?]
The possibility of a Trubisky selection isn’t completely out of left field, as Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reported last month that the Browns were strongly considering taking Trubisky first overall. The Browns — clearly — need help at the quarterback position, and while they own another pick in the first round, there’s no guarantee Trubisky will be available when Cleveland comes on the clock at No. 12.
By selecting Trubisky at No. 1, the Browns would secure a long-term option under center and still have the chance to draft a pass-rusher later in the first round. Solomon Thomas, Derek Barnett, Charles Harris, Takkarist McKinley, and others may be on the board at pick No. 12, giving Cleveland a wide selection of prospects. Plus, the Browns own five of the top 65 picks, ensuring the club plenty of chances to fill in its roster after it lands a quarterback.
Passing on Garrett isn’t a cut-and-dry decision, however. He’s viewed as a the best overall player in the 2017 class, and the Browns reportedly have an “astronomical grade” on him. Additionally, Cleveland was “blown away” by Garrett’s combine performance, which included a 4.64 40-yard dash and 33 bench press reps.

Baloney
agreed
You have to love those Browns!
They will trade up from 12 to get trubisky. And they will get obi melinfonwu at 33. The 52nd pick will go to the titans as part of the trade up for trubisky.
is dude missing half an arm?
Ha ha . I did double take ,White sleeve.

Me too…WTF?!
Me three or four
Yeah because it makes sense to not trade #1 to the patriots for their backup qb but take a chance on a guy with 1 college year of experience.
I hope this rumor is true as it would be the epitome of the Browns dumbfoundedness
It’s not, just some other team trying to cause drama and more Browns bashing, maybe trying to goad someone into trading up thinking Garrett will still be there.
And you can just stop with your fantasy about getting #1 for Garoppolo. NOT. GOING. TO. HAPPEN.
Cam Newton started how many college games? And no way Garrapolo is worth a 1st rounder yet alone the top pick overall. Look at where he was drafted, what little he has proven so far and how long he has been sitting. Trubisky has more upside and with two firsts they will grab a QB with their second 1st rounder.
Just a bit confused about your argument. Are you saying that they should or shouldn’t take Mitch T at number 1? I think it would be a disaster for a team like the Browns to pass on Garrett but stranger things have happened. I’m just over teams taking these flawed or inexperienced quarterbacks number one overall, and then being shocked when they aren’t that good. Yes college success doesn’t always translate to NFL success but I would at least want a guy that’s shown the ability to win and lead. Trubisky looks like an NFL qb but he only started 1 of his 3 years in college and while 8-5 is nothing to dismiss, it doesn’t scream must have to me. Idk I just think the Browns should take what seems to be as close to a sure thing in Myles and try to snag Watson at the end of the first, beginning of the second. We will see
He’s not saying they should take Trubisky #1, just pointing out that the argument that Trubisky has too little experience to be taken #1 overall is ridiculous and he points to Cam Newton as an example. None of the QBs invovled this draft are worthy of the #1 overall pick, and I am including Garoppolo in that mix.
Exactly, thanks!
Your price is wrong…just saying
Every misguided Patriots fan somehow thinks their backup QB is worth a #1 overall and 2 future #1s, when he’s shown nothing in his pro career that says he’s a franchise QB yet alone and starter.
He’s worth a second round pick at best
Some reason they have me posted as Jason-api as well ?!?!??
Lol
See….what the hell is going on with this
This isn’t even a good QB draft class. None of these QBs is a day-one starter. They’re 2 to 3 year projects.
Hmmm. Never seen this before. A team with the number one pick trying to get someone to bite. The Browns could have Garrett but who wants the best player in the draft when you can get draft choices.
It’s not the Browns trying to get anyone to bite, it’s a team like the 49ers or Bears trying to get other teams to think that Garrett will be available. They want someone to trade up because they don’t want to be at #2 or #3. If you notice, Adam Schefter’s “source” is an NFL executive.
They need to give the 12th overall pick for mccarron
No they don’t
Not worth the 12th pick in the second round, certainly not worth a first rounder.
Hell no they need to trade up for 5 to get trubisky. Or they can get darnold next year which would be a better idea.
They need to trade up fto 5 to get trubisky. Or they can get darnold next year which would be a better idea.
All three comments are terrible ideas
If these are the 2 players on the top of their board, they’re screwed either way because I doubt either will be good, especially the QB. Garrett just doesn’t have the game on tape to justify picking him #1. He stat stacked against bad teams, and he doesn’t have a variety of moves or use his hands well. Pro linemen will eat him alive playing on such a bad team. Best thing is to trade down and get something better.
I’m guessing you are a fan of a team that would have a chance at Garrett should the Browns pass on him. At that point, your entire tune would change and you would be saying “dumb Browns! passed on the best pass rusher in the draft!”
Is there any way Trubisky becomes a successful NFL quarterback playing for the Browns? Not likely. That isn’t a knock on Trubisky’s potential as a quarterback. It is a knock on the Browns ability to develop quarterbacks. The Browns also have a hard time keeping quarterbacks healthy. Trubisky is destined to fail as the #1 pick in Cleveland.
No matter what QB they draft, it’s destined to be a failure. Their track record is beyond horrible.
