The 49ers have acquired the 104th pick from the Vikings in exchange for the 109th and 219th selections, per Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area (Twitter link).
San Francisco is using the pick on a quarterback, Iowa’s C.J. Beathard, who became the Hawkeyes’ full-time starter in 2015. Beathard totaled 17 touchdown passes in each of his two seasons at the helm and combined for 15 interceptions, 10 of which came last year. The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder has a “very good” arm, observes Pro Football Focus, though the outlet only expects him to develop into a third-stringer at the NFL level. That figures to be his immediate role in San Francisco, which features Brian Hoyer and Matt Barkley as its top two QBs.
You don’t spend a 3rd RD pick in just a third stringer! At first, yes that’s all he should be this year.
bsteady7 it was a com pick that the niners only had to give up a fourth and seventh to go grab him they didn’t give up much at all so i dont why ur tripping on that, and now to talk about ur point here, what else were the niners gonna do here they got the D lineman, then the linebacker and then the CB so now the next check mark is QB which is what they did, he’s a long term project which is what Kyle wanted and is interested in seeing how he progresses to next level, I for one like the pick up and see no problem with it Hoyer was already gonna be starter so there’s nothing wrong with this pick
I agree. Why trade up a few spots for a guy that threw 12 TD and 10 INT and is only projected as a 3rd level backup.
