The Steelers are signing running back Knile Davis, Adam Schefter of ESPN.com tweets. It’ll be a one-year deal.
Davis, a longtime backup in Kansas City, found himself buried on the Chiefs depth chart last year. When he got an opportunity to get away from Jamaal Charles, Charcandrick West, and Spencer Ware, he fell flat. Davis was traded to the Packers in mid-October, but he only got five carries in two games before being waived. He was claimed by the Jets the next day, but he was cut about three hours later when the team opted to sign free agent running C.J. Spiller. Davis circled back to KC and amassed just 23 yards off of 13 carries.
Davis had some quality games in 2013 and 2014 with Kansas City, but we haven’t seen him move the needle in a while. He’ll now try to catch on as a backup for Le’Veon Bell in Pittsburgh.
Isnt DeAngelo Williams still out there as an UFA?
Anyone know why the Steelers wouldn’t bring him back?
Age? $$$? Injuries?
He was pretty solid filling in for L. Bell, just wondering what the circumstances were not bringing DW back for another yr.
I don’t think that signing Davis necessarily means that they are no longer interested in DeAngelo. Davis is more of a kickoff returner option and competition for Fitzgerald Touissant than a top backup for Bell. As for DeAngelo, to some he looked like he slowed down considerably in the last half of last year, and he didn’t look quick at all in the AFC Championship game. I don’t think it’s money, I think that they are worried that he doesn’t have much left or that he can’t stay healthy.
I think it’s his age. I liked him during his time here, but at his age it’s best to let him walk. Davis is a guy brought in for competition and probably won’t make the roster, they can still go out and bring in a guy via FA or the draft.
Please why waste $ on this guy when you should be signing AP!?
They have Bell? Why in the world would they sign AP.
