It sure sounds like Scot McCloughan will be ousted in D.C. The Redskins have been “entertaining” new general manager options for “quite some time,” numerous league sources tell Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com. Apparently, the team has internally discussed names and La Canfora writes says they have “essentially have begun the process.” Unsurprisingly, then, a parting of ways is “inevitable” – perhaps in the form of a buyout – multiple sources tell Mike Jones of the Washington Post.
If team president Bruce Allen looks for a successor to McCloughan, one name that has surfaced is former Buccaneers GM Mark Dominik, who has a history with Allen. La Canfora also suggests a possible promotion for executive Alex Santos, though the team has never promoted from within to fill the GM role, while Jones adds that ex-Redskins quarterback Doug Williams and former Chargers GM A.J. Smith are possibilities.
As for McCloughan himself, La Canfora hears the GM is not in rehab (he has dealt with alcohol-related issues) and has not been in rehab during his hiatus from the team. However, he has not stopped drinking since joining the Redskins in 2015, per Jones, who writes that McCloughan’s peers don’t believe that has negatively affected his work. McCloughan and Allen have been at loggerheads over several matters, details Jones, and it looks as if their inability to coexist will lead to a divorce.
Reportedly, the chaos in Washington is making the representatives of free agents question the team’s stability.
Hell we had 2 halfway decent seasons in a row,I guess thats about enough for Dan and his stupid side kick.GOD HELP ALL OF US REDSKINS FANS! P.S. hey Dan
He’s done a good job putting together talent for the team. Wasn’t in the sexy high profile style Snyder loves, but it was effective. That organization can never seem to get out of its own way.
I’m very sadden that we have chose to make a damn mess again…Scott did a hell of a job with the mess he was handed…team seemed to be turned by the corner…kicker hits two kicks and this team is the in the playoffs…Danny boy just can’t keep his damn hands out of the cookie jar…..bozo
Then you wonder WHY Kirk Cousins wants out.
I was a Redskin fan for over 40 years but enough of this circus. As long as Bruce Allen has Snyder’s ear the Redskins will go nowhere. Bruce Allen is a dick!!
Agree 110%
Just like former GM Trent Baalke with Jed York in SF… Although it seems that Jed York decided to stay-out while giving complete autonomy to Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch to run the team.
Mccloughan will now have been fired by 3 different NFL teams. Maybe the problem isn’t the redskins?
Thank you.
Not to mention no one from the organization is talking to the media, so where are all this rumors coming from?
Daryl T:
With ALL due respect?:
1. WHY so naive?
2. McCloughan alcohol drinking problem is well documented>NOT a rumor.
3. McC. was NOT at the combine: fact not a rumor.
The article clearly shows the WAS FO dysfunction. As a loyal SF 49er fan I am familiar with “dysfunction junction.”
4. My suggestion to you run the web search engines hot and watch NFLN, ESPN, Fox sports, etc.
Thanks
Yeah, the problem is the Redskins. Their track record speaks for itself. The only reason they could get someone like McCloughan is because you knew he had a drinking problem, so no one really wants to hear a sob story about having to deal with it. Coaches are gambling and drinking all day at work; players are doing drugs and beating women; give me a break about indignance of a GM being an alcoholic. Bottom line is does he nail picks, and he nails picks. Ask Seattle how their drafts were with him and how they’ve been since. Ask SF how their drafts were with him and after Trent Baalke lived on them for years afterward as a team with a wide oe=open Super Bowl window and tons of picks culminated in the train wreck of last year that barely won a game. He’s good at this with warts that the general public would never be aware of unless you wanted them to be aware of them for reasons that have nothing to do with football.
You’re the man, thanks.
This thing is simple. Mcloughan took that job because his Pops knew Allen from their Raiders days under Al Davis. I’m sure McCloughan knew of Allen’s reputation of being a front office politician but thought he could handle that because the guy is obviously an idiot on personnel and often likes to bask in the blow while smarter people like McClloughan pick players, which is honestly all I think that guy wants to do and lives and breathes to do. However, he got there and found out quickly that Allen has become an even bigger politician in the last 12 years since Oakland and that relationship quickly came to a head, culminating in Allen sending out flunkies like Chris Cooley to speculate about his drinking, which he made apparent before he took another job that he wasn’t going to stop doing because it’s the NFL and in his eyes, everyone who works there has problems from the executives on down to the players. The bottom line is can you do your job, and he does it well. Just ask Seattle and all those late round gems he found as the college director or just ask SF as they were a Super Bowl contender for years based on what he drafted. He knows he can either go back to free lance consulting and keep getting paid or get another job. He’s that good and knows he doesn’t need the nonsense in DC to continue his career.
I salute you, thanks.
Maybe Scott wanted to cut ties with Little Gruden and bring in his own HC and Allen was against it. You bring in all these guys to replace Joe Barry knowing Gruden was a lame duck coach then extend him latter.Next is Danny not willing to move Cousins to S.F because he has a grudge against the Shanahans and Cousins for taking his boys job. Vinnie must be laughing at all this. They are waiting until after the draft to let Scott go.
