Although the Packers have “some” interest in free agent running back Adrian Peterson, a meeting between the two parties likely wouldn’t take place until the draft has concluded and Green Bay has assessed its options, according to Ben Goessling of ESPN.com.
To this point, most of the news surrounding Peterson has involved clubs reporting that they are not interested in signing the 32-year-old back. Several rumored suitors – the Texans, Patriots, Raiders, Giants – have shown little to no interest in Peterson, while the Seahawks visited with him but then opted to sign Eddie Lacy. Meanwhile, Peterson won’t be re-signing with the Vikings after Minnesota inked Latavius Murray, leaving the future Hall of Famer’s prospects even more limited.
The Packers have not yet ruled themselves out as a potential Peterson landing spot, and they do have a need in their relatively barren backfield. After losing Lacy to Seattle, Green Bay boasts only Ty Montgomery, Don Jackson, and the recently re-signed Christine Michael in its running back corps. By joining a new club within the NFC North, then, Peterson would give the Packers a legitimate starting option to play alongside quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Peterson is one of only four of PFR’s Top 50 Free Agents that has yet to sign with a new club, and we also ranked him as the best running back still on the board.
Peterson would have interest in joining the Packers, and as a Vikings fan this wouldn’t bother me considering the team has obviously moved on. However, I doubt that he would sign for them at a discount, and the fact Peterson really needs at least 25 carries a game to be at his best, I’m unsure how that would fit in with the Packers pass orientated offense.
Steelers
No. Why? Because my luck he will catch his second wind there like Deangelo Williams did. We don’t need that. Go be a slow, broken down, old RB somewhere. Don’t be an effective backup in Pittsburgh. Keep that crap out of our division.
In a few more years the Browns will give you a big offer. Like that excellent Jamal Lewis signing years back.
come to green bay it’s payback time for Favre
Favre helped Vikings. AP can’t help anyone. Unless he wants to be an assistant RB coach? Can’t beat the players though.
To say AP can’t help anyone is an arrogant comment. I think even he knows that his days as a workhorse back are over along with getting paid like one. To stick AP in the backfield with Rodgers for 20-25 snaps a game and giving him the ball 10-12 times would force defenses to account for a running game in GB finally. Put 7 in the box on AP even now and he’s easily good enough to pick up 4-4.5 yards per carry.
You are aware that he got 1.9 yards per carry last year, right? 72 yards on 37 rushes in 3 games. Precisely the same number of rushes per game as you would have him do with the team from Wisconsin.
Now in 15 when he got 20+ carries per game he got 92.8 yards per game and 4.5 yards per attempt. Much better numbers. But he wasnt hurt, he was younger, and they didnt try to run him out of the shotgun. You know the shotgun right? That formation that the guy that wears number 12 on the team from Wisconsin likes to use, yes?
Peterson a fit with the team from Wisconsin? I dont think so.
You sir, are a condescending douchebag
Force a defense to account for AP? Lol. What does that entail, having the defense laugh a little when they see them, hoping they aren’t ready when the ball is snapped?
An undrafted rookie free agent will be more effective than AP this year.
AP is done. If he is signed by anyone it will be solely because of his name.
oh boy, I can absolutely guarantee this vague assumption will be transformed into the #1 segment on the Milwaukee sports radio all day tomorrow.
“Packers in heavy pursuit of AP!! Is he a good fit for this team? Will you be upset that a child beater plays for your team? Call in and discuss 414799****”
Blah Blah Blah
Definitely wont be turning on that station tomorrow, good lord.
“Theres a report out there that has the Packers thinking about signing Adrian Peterson.” Light em Up!!
He actually wants to be feature back still and wants 10-12 mil a year. That’s why he has no visits. I think Tampa cause the an is always under center. Cause he can only run downhill from six yards back and a full back. Can’t run out of shotgun can’t block or catch. I think it would be funny to go to packers and screw up there offense making tigers under center and not shotgun.
makes sense if the Pack wants to move on to another QB. The way AP blocks, Rodgers will simply become a tackling dummy.
If he wants a ring then playing with the packers is his best shot at getting it
Who is Washington trotting out there ? Good young oline
